We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. For more information on our process and requirements, visit our adoption information page.

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm/lyme tested, dewormed, and microchipped prior to adoption. The standard adoption donation is $450, and puppies under 5 months of age are $500. The adoption donation is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.

Meet Remington, He is a 15 week old Labrador and shepherd mix, he has a beautiful black coat with a wave down his back and a white mark on his chest. He is going to be a larger dog; he is growing so fast that we can’t keep up with his current weight. But his adult weight will be in excess of 60lns. We think he’ll be a big lap dog because he always wants to be snuggled up with his foster parents.

Right when we saw the picture of Remington we knew that he was a sweet little pup that needed a lot of love. He didn’t have the easiest first few weeks of his life. He was an abandoned puppy up in Manitoba that needed love and care. When we went to see him on his way back from the airport he was the sweetest little puppy excited to get out of a cage and crawl on to our laps, he quickly got along with his now foster sister, Maple, and couldn’t wait to have another dog to cuddle. He also gets very excited when he sees his foster brother cat, they run around the house together all day long. It took a little for Remington to become fully comfortable and now that he is, he is the most playful and lovable puppy. Playing is what Remington always wants to do, he’s always trying to entice his foster sister Maple to play with him, otherwise he’s entertaining himself running around the house with a toy. He loves to be right next to his humans whether it be following us around the house or snuggled right up to you. He is always full of excitement and love. We feel that this would make him a great family dog, even though he has not been around children, we think that he would be great around them since he is so loving and playful. Preferably children 10 and up as he is still learning to not nibble on our fingers and toes when he wants to play.  Also he doesn’t realize sometimes how long his legs are and can “punch” you in the face when he gets called for cuddles. Remington loves people and wants everyone’s attention, on walks he always gets excited when he sees someone and extra excited when he gets to say hello.

Remington’s next home needs to be his forever home because he gets very attached, if his foster mom leaves he tends to cry just waiting until she comes back again and does not like to be alone at all. With that being said he actually does do well in his crate and has no trouble walking in on his own when told with or without a treat. At night he has no issue going in to his crate without crying, in the day he will cry for a few moments but then calms himself down. He is a very intelligent dog, we have already taught him sit, shake a paw, lay down, we are working on wait right now. He is a very quick learner, also quite the explorer, if his nose catches a scent you bet he’s following that trail, or if he’s in a new place he wants to explore and smell all over. He gets along great with other dogs whether it be playing and running around with them outside or cuddling right up to them to sleep.

As mentioned Remington loves exploring and especially loves long walks, he will be a great companion for those that love the outdoors, he also does great in the car and either sleeps the whole time or has his head at the window.  He needs to go to a family that wants a dog to be a part of their lives and activities. He will not be happy being a dog that is left home while his family is out having fun. He will be an excellent companion for those who enjoy being out in the wilderness, hiking, camping, and just enjoying the great outdoors. He needs very active people as he will grow into a very active dog. He will be a year round, all weather type dog so needs the same in his people. He also is a very smart dog so we are looking for a family committed to taking him through advanced obedience classes and doing more than just the basic classes with him. The more you can do with this pup the better dog he will become!

Although we have only had Remington for a few weeks we already love him dearly and know that he will be definitely missed when it is time for him to go from our home but we will be so happy once he finds himself the perfect family. I couldn’t see anyone not loving him. Some of the things that we will miss most is his cute snoring while he’s sleeping on you, his bunny hops when he’s excited and running around and his kisses and cuddles.

He has been a wonderful buddy for us as well as his foster siblings and will make the perfect dog for a loving home.
