Alfred

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

Meet Alfred, a 3 ½ month old American Cocker Spaniel.  Alfred and his siblings were surrendered to Pound Dog Rescue because they were part of an unintended litter as a result of an unspayed  mother.  We took them into care in hopes of finding them the right forever homes.

Alfred is a beautiful boy and people take note of him wherever he goes.  He is chocolate brown with white markings throughout his body.  His medium length fur is very soft and wavy.  Alfred is looking for a home that will commit to ensuring that he is regularly groomed as he matures.

Alfred is a major cuddle bug.  The first time that we held him, he put his paws around our necks and his head on our shoulders.  He is a real hugger.  Alfred’s perfect day would consist of a medium length walk, followed by snuggles.  He discovered belly rubs on day one.  Now, when people come to visit, he flops on the floor by their feet with his belly in the air and waits for people to pay the toll before he moves on.

He is a medium energy dog who really seems to enjoy his time outdoors.   He has been introduced to the lake and we think that with time, he could be a real water loving dog.

Alfred enjoys his leash walks.  He is working on walking a straight line and not running into his people’s legs.  Alfred is pretty high on life most of the time and prances around without a care about where anyone else is.  For this reason, Alfred would not do well in a home with anyone who is unsteady on their feet because he is not yet aware of his body and could be a fall risk.

Alfred is doing well with his potty training.  He still has some accidents in the house but has started to indicate when he wants to go outside by approaching the door and sniffing the ground.

Alfred is currently in a home with both cats and an older dog.  He does quite well with all of them.  He has been very friendly with everyone and everything that he has met so far.  He is a very social boy.  Alfred does well with older children.  In fact, the children are his favourite people in our house.  He would be fine for a family with children over 6yrs of age.  He naps in their beds and sits with them whenever he can.  Alfred has so much potential for being a great family dog.

Alfred is crate trained.  He does not love his crate but other than some minor whining when he first gets in, he is quite in his crate.  We put him in his crate to sleep at night and when we are unable to properly supervise him during the day.  Alfie is a baby and needs constant supervision.  He cannot be left unattended at this point.  Having said that, we have not seen any signs that he is destructive.  In fact, he if developing really good house manners for a puppy his age.  Alfred wakes up once during the night looking to go outside for a bathroom break.  Afterwards, he goes back in his crate and goes right back to bed.

Alfred has received all of the proper vet care while in the care of Pound Dog Rescue.   He currently has droopy lower eyelids that require eye drops once or twice a day.  As he grows older, it is possible that he may grow out of this condition.  If he does not, it is possible that he could require corrective surgery in the future to fix the issue.  Anyone wishing to adopt Alfred, needs to consider that this could be an added cost down the line. No decisions can be made though until he is done growing and the vet can determine if his eyelids needs correction or not.

Alfred has a goofy, quirky little personality.  He has a stuffed cat that he carries around the house and loves to snuggle with.  We also wonder is he is part kangaroo because he walk-bounces wherever he goes.  When we sit on the floor with a blanket on our laps, Alfred takes this as an invitation to pounce into our laps for snuggles.

Alfred is a lovely, gentle, easy going dog with a friendly personality and a desire to please his people.  He pretty much checks all the boxes of a great family dog.  The fact that he is so darn cute is an added bonus.
