ADOPTED
Allow me the pleasure of introducing the world to 5-year-old Coco, the Miniature Poodle. When this 13 lb. poodle first arrived, he was exceptionally thin, very scared and quite a mess. He had lived all of his life in a puppy mill so was extremely matted and his coat was full of dirt, sawdust and straw. Despite the mistreatment he endured, Coco has an incredible capacity to love unconditionally. He appreciates every small act of kindness.
When he arrived at his foster home, he was soon introduced to my dog and the two became instant friends. In less than two days, he was totally house trained and never again made a mess in my home or his crate.
Coco’s crate is his safe place. He eats his meals there, sleeps there, and when I am away from the house, he readily runs to his crate as he knows when I return, he will have full use of my home. He is very quiet throughout the night and is content to sleep until I get up in the morning. He likes being outside in a fenced yard if someone is with him, but he wants to be with you whenever it is possible so if you go in the house, so does Coco. He is learning how to walk well on a leash and slowly is starting to understand the “Sit” Command. He loves chasing a ball and will return it but after a few times doing this, he decides it’s better to move the ball to his crate so he can keep it!!! He’s very smart and very loving. After obedience training, I feel he will be a natural for Agility or Flyball if that is of interest to be his forever family.
Coco is very loving and just wants to be by your side at all times – he is my “Shadow”. Coco is a snuggler. He is happiest curled up right next to me and often rolls onto his back for a great belly rub. Coco simply loves to be loved. He is just so happy to be taken care of and loves being treated with kindness. He is so eager for affection and it is so easy to cuddle and love him as much as he likes.
Coco has accompanied me to the cottage and we found that he really enjoys the water and even swam! He travelled well in the car and is crated for car rides. He doesn’t make a peep and is an excellent travel companion.
Coco is being fostered with another dog and does well. He would be fine in a home with another small and calm dog…he doesn’t wish to rough house or wrestle… but he would do equally well being the only dog and getting all of the attention. Coco doesn’t live with cats but we are sure he could learn to live peacefully with a cat. Coco would require a home with children over the age of 10years. Having had no socialization prior to rescue the energy and activity of a home with young children would be too much for him. Coco is looking for a quiet, calm home where he can relax and really settle in. He is also looking for a home in a quieter area…a town, rural area or quieter subdivision. Although he does well with general street noises in the subdivision he is fostered in, life in a big city will be too much commotion for a dog just new to the world outside of a puppy mill barn.
Coco loves his backyard and we would love for him to have a safe, securely fenced yard to call his own. This isnt a must have, it would just be very nice for him. He would adapt to most living situations other than a large apartment building. He does bark from time to time so anyone in adjoined living situation would need to consider the impact on neighbours should Coco bark. Ideally he would love a detached home without a lot of surrounding noises.
Coco is an amazing boy. He has a personality that will light up your whole life and he is truly a pleasure to have as company. He’s cute and sweet and very excited about his new life. I cannot overstate how wonderful this dog is when he feels safe. He is truly a joy and it has been an amazing experience to get to know him. His forever family will be incredibly lucky to have him.
Coco’s forever family will need to understand the patience and work it will take to help rehabilitate Coco and incorporate him into their family. It will not happen overnight but instead take time and deliberate care. That being said Coco has already made so much progress in the short time I’ve had him that I know in his perfect family it won’t take long for him to accept and start enjoying his new life. Adopting Coco gives this little angel the new chance at the life he deserves and gives your family the most special new member. Coco will repay your kindness with love and affection for the rest of his life.
