Fili

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

Let me introduce you to this handsome boy Fili, an Australian Shepherd mixed with a Beagle who is about 12 weeks old. Fili currently weighs 18 pounds, and this pup still has some growing to do and we think he will be close to 40lbs.  Fili is still a fluff ball of a puppy with thick puppy fur that is oh so soft to touch.  Fili has beautiful light brown coloured fur with some darker brown marks throughout that really show in the sun.  Fili also has some white on his front legs, the tip of his tail as well as his chest, with a little white mark down his face.  Fili is such a sweet natured dog and you can’t help but get lost in his adorable face with his cute brown eyes and his sweet little nose.

Fili and his sibling Fili were unfortunately puppy mill discards that didn’t find a home, so Pound Dog Rescue took them in to give them the best chance at finding their forever homes.  Fili was full of joy and excitement when we brought him into our home and it didn’t take long for him to warm up to his surroundings!  He will test and see what he is and is not allowed to play with, he certainly doesn’t hesitate to steal a rogue sock or the dish towel from our kitchen if we aren’t watching him!  His puppy antics will keep you entertained for hours.

Fili would do well living in a detached home with a big fenced in backyard for him to roam and explore on a daily basis.  He absolutely looooves his brother and his foster dog siblings and wants to run around and play with them all the time.  When they are outside it is constant playing and trying to find somewhere to dig a hole, once he comes in there is always a bit more play time, then some independent play with a toy or chew bone, and then he will find a nice quiet and comfy place to take a nap.  Fili’s ideal home would have another playful dog for him to expel some energy, but we also think Fili would do well as an only dog.  Fili can at times be a stubborn little boy and he wants to do things on his own time and thinks he can do whatever he wants, when he wants to do it.  Fili is also currently living with a cat, he has not had much exposure to the cat other than to see her on her perch, but he has not shown any interest in her.  Fili also lives with two teens in the house, considering he is still a puppy we have not noticed too much mouthing, but when it does happen we are quick to correct and he is very responsive to correction.  He loves when the kids get down on the floor and play with him!  When he gets excited he gets some full body wiggles going on and his little tail will wag a mile a minute.

Fili would love a big fenced in backyard to be able to run around and play in, he loves playing outside soo much and it is probably his favourite thing to do.  Fili is crate trained, so when it is bedtime or time for the humans to leave the house he happily walks into his crate and waits for a couple of treats.  Fili has never barked when we put him in his crate and usually doesn’t make a peep all through the night and not even in the morning.  Sometimes in the morning if we are taking a while to wake up he will let out a few whines, but otherwise he is very quiet.  When we put him in his crate during the day he will happily go in and take a nap, if he feels like he has been in there for a while and you keep walking by his crate he will eventually get restless and bark at you a bit, but generally speaking he is very quiet when in his crate.

Fili has been doing really well with his house training, despite his stubbornness. He is still pretty young but most days we are accident free.  Occasionally he will have an accident in the house, but it is mostly due to us not keeping a schedule and letting him out at appropriate times.  Fili does not yet have a tell and therefore he will not let us know when he needs to go out, but if you’re providing him ample opportunity he will always do his business outside.  His forever home will need to make sure they are diligent with him during the first few weeks to keep him on the right track with his housetraing.  Fili knows to come when he is called and he knows to sit.  Overall though, Fili is such a well mannered little guy that he has been an absolute dream to have.  Once he gets some playtime outside he mostly takes a nap.  Fili will on occasion find an empty toilet paper roll to chew, but he is generally pretty good to only chew on his toys.  Fili is a pretty chill and relaxed pup, he doesn’t mind hanging out in a different room then you and doesn’t feel the need to follow you everywhere you go.  Fili loves attention and if you are petting another dog, you can bet that he’s going to push his way through to make sure that he can get in on some of the pet action too.  Fili very much enjoys getting affection, and he will go out of his way to seek affection.

Fili is a really good eater and his favourite time of the day is meal time!  He is extremely food motivated which will make training a bit easier of an experience.  When his food bowl is ready to go, he runs straight to his crate so that he can eat.

Fili has been a good passenger in the car when we have gone out, he has been crated during drives and has also sat on a lap.  He has been on many car rides both long and short and he has been excellent for all of them.  Fili has been doing some small walks to help him get acquainted with walking on leash.  With lots of excitement he is more than happy to follow along with you, but every once in a while he will need some encouragement to keep following, instead of sitting down or trying to go back the other way.  He is still pretty young so he is still learning and understanding about walks, as he gets older his walks should become much more frequent and longer.  Obedience training will be a must with Fili as it will help him develop a wonderful relationship with his new family, but also it will help him to understand what is expected of him and help set out rules in his new home.  This should be followed by an advanced obedience class to get him to be the best boy he can be.

Being Fili is still such a young puppy, we will only consider a home for him where someone is home or has the capability to come home throughout the day.  Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8 hour work day.  We are also looking for a family or person that is fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved.  Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly.  They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate.

Fili is looking for his forever family with someone who will spend their time walking and playing with him, going to training class, and someone who will relax with him at the end of the day. Ideally he would like to have a large fenced yard with another young playful dog to keep him company and run around with. Fili is such a beautiful, calm and sweet natured dog and he is looking for someone who will love him forever and be active with him daily. Fili has been such an easy dog to love, his eyes and mannerism say it all in how sweet he is, if you’re ready for your days to be filled with lots of walks, playtime, and snuggles then give this sweet boy a chance!
