ADOPTION PENDING
Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.
Meet Ivan! This unique little guy is sure to make an impression. Ivan is a 4 mth old Bulldog X Boston Terrier who currently weighs about 15lbs and will finish out around 20lbs. His white and brown coat is accented by a unique brindle pattern giving him the appearance of a tiny tiger. But of course his most striking feature is his bright blue eyes! Although these traits are a result of irresponsible breeding practices and can sometimes be indicative of other less ideal traits such as hearing or sight impairments, Ivan does not appear to have any deficits at this time.
Ivan has come to PDR by way of a puppy mill. While he was shy at first, his personality quickly blossomed. He is an energy-packed puppy who loves to zoom around and wrestle with his foster siblings. Like a typical puppy, Ivan is currently teething so EVERYTHING goes in his mouth. His future forever family will need to keep a close eye on him as he continues to learn what is safe for chewing and what is not. Ivan is showing himself to be quite a smart little boy and is picking up on the routine of day to day life quite quickly. He has been learning about crate training, and spends his evenings and times when his foster family is out of the house in his crate without much fuss.
Like most puppies this silly boy loves to play hard and crash hard. When he finally sits still he loves a good cuddle with his foster humans and doggy siblings. But it’s not all fun and games! Ivan has been learning to walk on leash, and has started taking small walks outside through the neighborhood. He is also working on his house training, which like most puppies is a work in progress that requires consistency from his humans and lots of patience. Currently he is still waking up once in the night for a potty break. Ivan has also been learning “sit” and “wait” and has been very responsive to positive reinforcement training techniques. Like most puppies he can be a bit selective with his listening, but with patience and consistency we are confident he will be an excellent little companion.
Ivan has been very well behaved with the other dogs that he has met, and so far has not shown any interest in small animals outside. He has not been tested with cats but as a puppy could learn to coexist with a cat. We think he would do well with an older dog sibling to show him the ropes, but also would do great as a solo dog in a home.
We will only consider a home for Ivan where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. Please keep in mind that if you work from home you need to have a plan in place for a crating schedule for the pup as puppies need 100% of your supervision when not in their crates; you cannot expect to work and have the puppy running around in the room with you as they won’t have your full attention. We are also looking for a family that is fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house-training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate. We are also looking for a family that will continue to crate train Ivan as we fully believe that this is the best for pups and offers them a quiet and secure “den” to call their own. A crate trained pup is a blessing as it offers a safe place to put them when you can’t be watching them all the time.
We are looking for a family for Ivan that has experience with the Bulldog breed and/or great knowledge of the breed. This is a breed of dog that comes with many medical and genetic issues and anyone considering a Bulldog type has to fully accept that and be fully capable of taking on any medical issue that may arise in this dog’s life. They are a brachycephalic breed and as such can have breathing issues in the heat or if allowed to get overweight so we need their people to be committed to ensuring that they are kept lean and trim for their life. We know how cute Bulldogs are and how easy it is to get taken in with their sweetness but please really do your research before applying and ensure that a Bulldog mix is the right fit for you.
We will be expecting our adoptive families to attend obedience school with Ivan. The guidance and lessons learned in puppy classes are very important to getting your pup off to a good start. Ivan is smart and he will love the learning..and the treats..that come with dog school. This will be great for his confidence building and socialization.
Ivan would be suited to most living accommodations as long as his need for quick access outside while he is still working on his house breaking can be managed. He won’t be suited for a high-rise apartment where he has to hold it to get down the elevator and outside, but a ground floor unit, townhouse, condo etc would be just fine, as would a house with a yard. Ivan would be suited to a family with older children. As a teething puppy he isn’t suited for a home with young children at this time. His super sharp puppy teeth could easily hurt a small child. He would love a yard to run around in but this isn’t a necessity as long as there is a safe place for him to potty without having to walk a long way.
This little man is a barrel of laughs! It has been a joy to watch him grow and see his sweet, goofy personality start to shine. He will be such a welcome addition to a family looking to enrich their lives with a puppy of their own.
