Kaida

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

We are so excited to introduce Kaida, a 3 year old Golden Retriever. Kaida came to us from a Puppy Mill and was solely used for breeding purposes. She is a beautiful girl inside and out, with her golden red colour. She is approx. 50 lbs and is uniquely “small” for a golden retriever. She is such a sweetheart with a loving happy personality. She can’t wait to meet her forever home that will give her all the love she deserves. Kaida adapted to home life exceptionally well. She loves her meals, walks, cuddles and naps. Her tail is always wagging and she will never say no to being pet. She really loves humans and wants to be wherever we are. She is very trusting and loyal; an amazing companion dog.

When Kaida first arrived she just began her heat, and because of this cannot be spayed for 3 months, and therefore her forever family must be able to bring her back to our vet in Cambridge in order to have her spay surgery completed. She is done with her heat now. Anyone interested in Kaida needs to live within an hour of Cambridge to feasibly accommodate the drop off and pick up of the spay date. She will be adopted out on a contract that mandates the return for her spay.

Kaida is crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night and when we leave the house. Kaida did not like her crate at first but with lots of practice she now goes into her crate with a treat and only whines for a few minutes and then falls asleep. She will also choose to go lay in her crate on her own throughout the day. Kaida has been left alone in her crate for 6 hours and does fine. Kaida currently lives with her foster parents who work from home most of the week. Although she does well in her crate, Kaida is happiest with her foster parents and would do best in a home where someone works a hybrid schedule or works from home. Kaida is fully housetrained, and has never had an accident in the house.

Like all rescues, Kaida is slowly being introduced to new things. For the most part she finds everything super exciting! She is still warming up to car rides, and is quiet on them but just gets a bit nervous and will drool during them. She is also working on some household manners, like counter surfing. Kaida gets very curious and will jump up to reach counters and tables (and will eat food if up there). With that being said, she responds very well to verbal correction and is a quick learner. Kaida has a prey drive and likes to chase squirrels in the backyard. For this reason she will need to go to a home without cats. She currently lives with another dog and is very good with it. She doesn’t initiate play, but is extremely tolerant with the other dog. Kaida would do well in a home with or without another dog. If there is another dog, they will need to be more calm natured male dog that likes to keep to himself.

Kaida loves her walks! She goes on two long walks a day but could easily do more. She must go to an active household that has the ability to take her on a few  long walks a day. She is an amazing walker and loves to look around at everything outside. Kaida would love a home with a fenced in backyard as she really enjoys the outdoors.  Kaida has not been around small children but given her happy and gentle personality would do fine in a home with kids over 8yrs of age, or teens.

Kaida is starting to enjoy playing with toys and really loves to chew on a good bone. When she is not on a walk, you can find her sleeping in various spots around the house. She is food motivated, which is great for training. She will bark if her foster dog sibling barks, and shows her excitement at meal times and walks with little moans and whines, but overall, she is a very passive and quiet dog. Kaida did so well at the vet and has been given a clean bill of health. She is excited but calm when we have people over and lets anyone pet her. She has shown no aggression to people.

If you are looking for a sweet natured dog that you can cuddle and provide endless love for, Kaida is your girl.
