Mira

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

Mira is a supper sweet 51/2 month Old English Sheepdog/Poodle mix puppy who came to us from a shelter in Quebec where she was surrendered.  Mira was living with an elderly lady that could not manage the energy level of a puppy doodle.  We took Mira into our care so we could find her a forever home, one that could meet her needs.  Mira is a happy, very energetic, sweet puppy who is now ready to find a loving family to call her own.

Mira needs a home where someone is home majority of the day.  She is a very high energy girl and needs more than a walk to be her best self. She would love to be a running partner.

We are looking for a family/person that is fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved.  Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly.  They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate.  We are also looking for a family that will crate train Mira as we fully believe that this is the best for pups and offered them a quiet and secure “den” to call their own.  A crate trained pup is a blessing as it offers a safe place to put them when you can’t be watching them all the time.  Mira is great in her crate.  Mira is doing well on her housetraining however does not give any indication that she needs to go out, so still can have an accident in the house if not properly supervised or taken out regularly.  We are in a routine of letting her out regularly throughout the day and in doing so have had great success.  She does have a very good bladder, sleeps through the night for 7hrs.

Mira lives with other dogs in her foster home and gets along with them all.  We do not have cats but we are sure she will get along fine with them if any interest in them at all.  She is very eager to start the play with her foster siblings by jumping around them, but is hesitant when her foster siblings turns to play, she will come right back to us until she sees another opportunity to get in the fun.  She is trying to understand how to play fully, but still will turn to her persons for comfort and direction.  She does however run and run with them while they play fetch.  She will need the patience from you when introducing her to other dogs, she is hesitate but I am sure once she is exposed more and more she will making friends.  Any dog in the home would have to be tolerant of a very excitable young dog nature wanting to interact with them and follow them around.    Mira is not being fostered with young children.  She does have a sweet temperament but doesn’t really understand personal space yet and being a bigger clumsy young pup, still wanting to jump and is teething we feel she would be best in a home with children older than 10yrs of age.

Mira can be a little shy when greeting people and very shy meeting other dogs, she has yet to get in full play mode with our two dogs.  You can tell she wants to play so bad by barking, jumping around and running with them but has not yet fully gotten the confidence to engage in play, but it is nothing that won’t correct with time with confidence building, and more socialization.  When she first came to our home she barked a lot, at any noise, dogs, people and our neighbours while they were outside.  We work on this daily and she has gotten so much better, she will alert bark at the beginning but she has learned that the command “quiet” brings her a bunch of treats.  She will only bark a minute or two in her crate and only during the day, never at night.  I think she had limited or if any human interaction, other than her own and very little, if any, socialization so it is not surprising at all that she is trying to assess new situations.  You can tell she loves people and dogs and wants to make friends with everyone she meets, she will just need guidance from her new family/people.

Mira rides quietly in the cars, she has taken 2 hours rides to the cottage with no issues at all.  She would like to accompany you on your outings and be taken to fun and exciting places.  She loves going on walks and exploring.  She is back and forth on her walks.  She will sometimes walk right by your side and then when she wants to sniff a lot she will start pulling. She will need work on this and we are currently working on her walking beside us at times so she gets a walk she enjoys as well us.  Being a Doodle, walks are all what fun might be ahead and getting to it fast!   We do have her running bike side and she loves that.  She would be happy if she was someone’s running/jogging partner.

Mira is super friendly and wants a lot of attention.  She is a dog that wants to be where you are and would like her family to be home more than away.   She wants a home as well where there is easy access to a fenced yard for playtime and potty time.  She loves her outside play time but also wants someone to be with her.  She will throw her toys up and around, do lots of running laps by herself and at night jumps and try to catch the bugs.  Right now it’s very warm outside so we don’t stay out long, but she has no problem hanging by your side outside or inside.  Inside she is always in your way, interested in what you are doing.  The biggest behaviour issue we are trying to correct is that she is a big counter surfer, just loves the kitchen.  lol.  Mira, with the proper exercise, can very easily keep herself busy without destruction, she will throw her toys around, chew only on her bones and never pass on cuddle sessions.

Doodles are mixed breed dogs and therefore exhibit a spectrum of behaviour that are present in the breeds of their parents, however there are some behavioural characteristics that are very common that people should make note of.  First, Doodles have tendency to be very social dogs that do much better with their people around and engaged with them more than not.  A doodle that is left alone for long periods of time regularly can develop depression, anxiety, become obsessive about certain activities and these can result in other destructive behaviours.  Doodles also have a tendency to be high energy dogs that  need a abundance of metal and physical exercise, especially as they are growing into adulthood.  These are not couch potato dogs that are content with a few short walks a day.  If you have a more laid back lifestyle and are a homebody, a Doodle will not likely be a great match for you.  They are intelligent dogs who like to work, so taking them beyond basic training is highly recommended to help them live their best life.  They like to push boundaries and challenge you and many Doodle owners have claimed their dogs are always two to three steps ahead of them…and this all pretty much sums up Mira!  If you are committed to advanced training lots of physical exercised and exploring new walking/hiking spaces, then Mira just might be the right girl for you.

I would like to make it very clear here that Mira is NOT hypoallergenic.  Mira is a “Shepadoodle” with means she is part Sheepdog, a shedding dog.  She is a shed dog but we cannot make a claim that she is a non-shedding dog.  She will not be a suitable dog for allergy sufferers, sorry!   Mira also requires regular brushing as her fur will easily mat up if not kept up.  Regular trips to the groomer to keep her nicely trimmed will also be required.   There is quite a bit of upkeep with this coat type and it can become a huge mess quickly so the time and energy to keep up this type of coat will have to be taken into consideration as well.  This is quite the undertaking and not something everyone wants to take on or has the time or desire to do.  She has already been to the groomer once already to get her coat all cleaned up and this will be an every few months requirement for her future owners.  When we took her in she looked like a big shaggy sheep dog, but upon picking her up to our surprise she was a different dog, looked so much like a poodle that her foster dad didn’t even know she was OUR foster.  LOL.

We adore Mira and will settle for nothing less than a dedicated, loving family/people that is well aware of the breed requirements and the needs of a puppy and this breed mix if you have been thinking about adding a doodle puppy to your family and have the time and patience to properly raise a pup then she may just be perfect for you.  We know you will fall in love with her as deeply as we have when your meet her.
