Neisha

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion to brighten your days, then we’d like to introduce you to Neisha! She’s a charming, caramel-coloured Cocker Spaniel with a heart full of love and a playful spirit. The name “Neisha” means “lovely flower” and was chosen by her foster family who felt it perfectly captured her peaceful and beautiful nature. At an estimated 4 years old and weighing 28 pounds, she is a medium-sized dog in her prime, full of life yet mature enough to be a well-behaved household companion.

Neisha’s former life was not an easy one. She was rescued from a puppy mill where she was used as a breeding mother. This background may explain some of her behaviors, particularly her initial hesitancy around men. Despite her difficult past, Neisha has shown remarkable resilience and an incredible capacity for love and trust.

Given her history, Neisha thrives in a calm, patient environment where she can continue to build her confidence. She does best with gentle, consistent routines and positive reinforcement. While she may need some extra time to warm up to new people, especially men, Neisha’s loving nature shines through once she feels safe and secure.

Neisha is a joy to have around the house, not least because of her quiet and calm demeanor. She’s nearly silent in her day-to-day activities, making her an ideal companion for those who appreciate a peaceful home environment. The occasional excited yip might escape her when she spots a squirrel or bird during outdoor adventures, but otherwise, Neisha is content to express her happiness through gentle tail wags and loving cuddles rather than barks.

This little snuggle-muffin just loves to have her belly rubbed, and has a delightful playful side that comes out with her collection of stuffed animals. She adores her little plush friends and often carries them around, adding a touch of joy to the household. One of her endearing habits is greeting her humans with a toy when they come home, a heartwarming display of her affection. Impressively, Neisha is very respectful of household belongings and never chews or damages them. The one exception to this rule is her occasional sock-stealing escapade. But fear not! Even when she sneakily grabs a sock, she doesn’t damage it. In fact, she’s usually happy to trade her sock treasure for one of her stuffed animals when offered, turning a potential frustration into a fun game of exchange.

Neisha loves her outdoor time, including two 30-minute neighbourhood walks each day that keep her happy, healthy, and mentally stimulated. Of course, she wouldn’t complain if you wanted to take her even more often! During her walks, Neisha loves taking in all the sights and smells with enthusiasm. While she does tend to wander a bit left and right on her leash, she doesn’t pull excessively or become unmanageable. One of her adorable quirks is her tendency to plop herself down and observe other dogs passing by on the opposite side of the street. It’s as if she’s taking mental notes on her canine neighbours!

It’s important for potential adopters to be aware that Neisha will be at risk of running away if given the opportunity.  She is still learning about life outside of a barn stall and sudden noises or sights startle her.  Due to her recurring nervousness in certain situations or around certain people, she might dart out an open door or gate and will bolt and be gone. For this reason caution is needed when opening and closing exterior doors and gates, and that Neisha always be kept on a secure leash during neighbourhood walks. Additionally, a fully fenced backyard is essential to allow her to safely enjoy outdoor time. While this behavior may improve with training and as she becomes more comfortable in her forever home, for now, it remains an important concern that requires vigilance from her new family.

Neisha generally gets along well with other dogs, older children and women. She’s friendly and playful during her interactions with other dogs on walks, usually greeting them with a wagging tail and a curious sniff. However, when back at home with other dog playmates, she can become a bit possessive if they get too close when she’s with her owner or her toys. For this reason, Neisha would thrive best as the only dog in her new home, while still having opportunities for supervised playdates with other dogs. It’s worth noting that Neisha’s behavior around cats is currently unknown, as she hasn’t been exposed to them in her foster home.

Neisha’s adaptability extends to car travel as well. During the few car rides she’s experienced, Neisha has proven to be a calm and cooperative passenger. She sat or lay quietly in her crate without issue for a handful of trips ranging between 15 and 45 minutes. While she doesn’t completely relax, she doesn’t show signs of nervousness or agitation either. This makes her a great companion for families who enjoy day trips or need to transport their furry friend regularly.

When it comes to training, Neisha has done well with the basic “sit” command, demonstrating her ability to learn. She is also making progress on “wait” and “come”. While her formal training is currently limited, Neisha shows great potential for learning more commands and tricks. She’s an intelligent dog with an eagerness to please, which makes her a promising candidate for further training. Her new family will have the exciting opportunity to work with her on expanding her repertoire of commands and tricks, strengthening the bond between them in the process.

Neisha’s health is a top priority, and we’re happy to report that she’s in excellent condition. She’s up to date on all her vaccinations, has been spayed, and is microchipped for safety. Neisha has proven to be a model patient during her veterinary visits, allowing examinations without any issues. She is also quite willing to have her foster mom check her over and is never agitated when being groomed or washed. This cooperative behavior is just another example of her gentle and adaptable nature.

The ideal home for Neisha would be an adult only household, or one with quieter teens,  where she can be the center of attention as the only dog and where a woman is her main person.  Any man in the home would need to be gentle and patient and fully understanding that her relationship with him will take time to develop.   Unfortunately her experience with men in her past was not a positive one so this takes a lot of time to undo. She would do best with a family that understands her need for consistent training, regular exercise, and lots of affection. In return, Neisha promises to fill your days with love, loyalty, and endless tail wags.

If you’re ready to welcome a devoted, playful, and loving companion into your life, Neisha might just be the perfect match for you. This sweet Cocker Spaniel, with her caramel coat and endearing spotted muzzle, is not just looking for a home – she’s looking for a family to love and a place to belong. Could you be the one to give Neisha her happily ever after?
