ADOPTION PENDING
Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.
We would like to introduce our latest foster Rue who is an absolute sweetheart, in search of her forever home. Rue is a spunky six year old Mini-Goldendoodle who weighs in at 34 lbs. Her fur is a reddish golden colour and has a gentle wave thoughout. Her silky fluffy fur makes it impossible to pet her just once and those eyes…….!! Her gentle brown eyes show nothing but kindness. Rue is a true gem with a friendly personality that you just can’t ignore!!
Mini-Goldendoodle is a name the mass producers of crossbreed dogs have given to a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Min. Poodle resulting in a doodle of medium size. These dogs are NOT hypoallergenic and are usually light shedding. Rue will need to be brushed and groomed on a regular basis to prevent her beautiful hair from matting.
Rue was rescued from a puppy mill. She was used as a breeding dog as well as the “Token Mom” because of her overly friendly disposition and beautiful looks. The “Token Mom” is kept on display as every doodle and similar looking puppy’s mom should someone ask to see the mother of the pups, because of course the mills and commercial breeders don’t let the public into the actual areas the dogs are kept in. Although she has been kept in puppy mill conditions, she has had much more socialization than most and the transition to a loving home has been less stressful for her. She has quickly adapted to inside life and enjoys the perks of a loving family and constant interaction. She does however approach men with caution and potential adoptive families will need to be patient and mindful of this in the days and weeks following adoption. She will absolutely learn that men are kind and will bond with gentle and kind men in her forever home, she just needs a bit more time to trust as she hasn’t had a good experience in mill life with men prior to rescue.
We believe Rue would do best in a home on her own or with a calm, mature, male dog canine companion. Rue is a very social dog and is happiest around her people. She is suitable for a family that is home more than away. She loves nothing more than being included in all outings whether it is a family car ride or a long walk in the forest. The ideal family will need to be active and able to take her on two long walks a day to make happy and healthy. She would enjoy children over 8 or a smaller family situation as she is gentle and energetic. She would love a fenced in home but would be just as happy without as long as she was walked on a regular basis. She is happy to have a busy household as she does not seem to be bothered by with her family coming and going. She will watch and happily approach any newcomers to the family home.
Other animals on a walk for Rue is a moment of excitement. She becomes very aware of approaching people and animals and would love to meet and play with everyone! Her walking includes a “nose down” position as she loves to sniff and smell anything in sight. Her constant sniffing is only interrupted by her extreme love of people as she will lift her nose to acknowledge any potential canine or human interaction. She is working to contain her excitement while people approach. Rue walks best with a Gentle Leader head halter as walking on a leash for her is a new adventure and she tends to pull on a regular collar. Potential adopters will need to continue her training as she learns proper etiquette when approaching other animals and their humans along the way. Her gentle leader helps to control her excitement as walking out in this new environment is a whole new experience for her. She has shown great promise in her “pack walks” and has successfully walked side by side while maintaining her distance with other dogs.
Our favourite trait is her gentle personality. This sweetheart will draw you in with her beautiful brown eyes, nudge into your side and will await her much expected belly tickle. Her favourite spot, when she is not exploring outside, is the couch. When the couch is occupied, she will wait for her moment. The second someone moves off the couch, she will immediately hop up and claim her space, always snuggling into anyone still remaining. As much as she loves the couch snuggles, she is not a couch potato. She is a very active dog who thrives on daily activity and will need her exercise daily. If you are looking for low energy, lay around kind of dog, she is not your girl!
Rue is 100% excited to go for a car ride. She is happy to accompany her people wherever they may go. She happily sits or lays in the backseat and enjoys the ride. Rue is crate trained and requires a gentle nudge to go into her crate but accepts this as her bed for the night. She also eats her meals in her crate and will spend any of her unsupervised time to keep her healthy and safe. She is in the process of house training and has done amazing these last two weeks. She tends to approach the door when she needs to relieve herself. However, any potential adopters will need to take her out continuously until she is comfortable in her new surroundings. She has spent up to 5 hours in her crate during the day and is very excited to see her people return from work.
Young kids ( 8+) will be a great fit for Rue. She enjoys the constant interaction and will need someone to keep her active. She has not shown any interest in any toys as of yet. She has on occasion picked up and moved a sock or shoe from one side of the room to another very quietly and then quickly dropped it when she realized she had been spotted.
Rue is extremely intelligent dog. She has learned how to sit in a very short time. The fact that she is food driven mostly by liver bites is a very helpful incentive. Potential adopters must be willing to take Rue to obedience training to help her socialize and live her best life.
Rue has recently found her voice and will occasionally bark. She is typically a quiet dog but will warn us if someone is at the door or a new person comes into the house. She is quick to stop when she has our attention and then will quickly approach the stranger for attention. She will never be a guard dog!
This adorable Mini-doodle has been given a clean bill of health. She has been vet checked, micro-chipped, spayed and vaccinated. There are no current health concerns. If you think this little cutie will fit into your life, visit our website to fill out an application.
