ADOPTION PENDING

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

Meet Stevie, the sweetest dog with a heart full of love. She is ready to brighten your day with her joyful personality and endless affection!

Stevie is a 7 month old Coton du Tulear mix. She is currently 13lbs, and may fill out a bit more to be around 14lbs. She has the softest fur, that is mainly white with the odd brown spots throughout. Her breed is non-shedding, but requires regular grooming, brushing and maintenance to prevent matting.

Stevie came to our rescue from a puppy mill, where she was never introduced to the outside world or provided love. Despite this start to her life, all Stevie wants to do is love and provide puppy kisses to EVERYONE. She absolutely loves people and wants to be around them all the time. She wants to say hello to everyone she sees, and she is very popular in our neighbourhood because of this.   Stevie is still getting used to the world, and can be nervous around new environments. Her forever family will have to provide her the socialization of new experiences, but also have patience that this is all new for her.  Stevie will not be suited for big city living with all the noise and busy traffic, but will be great in a rural setting, small town, or quiet subdivision where she can continue her learning of the great outdoors at a quieter and calmer pace.

Stevie is a shadow to her humans. She currently will cry if she is in another space without them. Her forever home will have to be patient with this, but also let her build the confidence she needs to take on the world on her own. She has come so far, initially being tucked right under our legs, to now zooming around the house – but she still wants her humans to be in the same space while she eats, and outside with her while she does her business.

Stevie’s dream home would be with a family that is home most of the time. She is a medium energy dog that likes going for two half hour walks a day and otherwise will curl up beside you wherever you are. Throughout the day, she loves to sleep right beside my desk while I work from home. She is a great snuggle companion on the couch, and loves to take naps on her foster Dad’s chest.

As mentioned, Stevie’s safe space is tucked RIGHT between your legs. While this seems cute, it sometimes can be a serious trip hazard and this has to be mindful for her new family.  She will be a hazard to anyone with mobility issues.   While Stevie loves people, we find smaller kids, strollers, busy movements etc. have been overwhelming for her. Kids 10+ would be fine, as long as they provide a balance of minding her space and soaking up puppy kisses.  While on walks, Stevie is great on the leash because she wants to stick close by your side.  Stevie has learned to go up stairs, but is still working on going down them.

Stevie is currently living with another small dog. She seems to pay him no mind, as her main focus is her humans or even playing by herself. On walks, she seems interested in smaller dogs, but timid of larger dogs. I think she is just figuring out how to play with dogs, and she is unsure of this at this moment. An ideal home would be a family wanting to give Stevie their full love, as that is mainly what she wants. If another dog is present, they will have to be small and  very calm and independent in sharing their family’s attention (as Stevie loves a lot of it!).

Stevie has shown no resource guarding of food or toys to either humans or dogs.
She has not been cat tested, but she is very gentle natured and a dog savvy cat would probably be suitable to her.

Stevie does go in her crate while we are away from the home and at night. Although, she would absolutely love to curl up in the bed with her people. Currently her crate is not her favourite place, as she always wants to be with us, and will let out her noises to tell us so. Her forever home will need to continue working on this with her, as she is still in her puppy stages and not trusted around the house unsupervised.

Because of Stevie’s cries while we are away, a condo or apartment living situation will not be suitable. Other than this, Stevie is not a yappy dog at all. Her barks are only to let us know someone is at the door.  Stevie quickly picked up potty training and will circle at the backdoor when she has to go out. Because she is still a puppy, she needs to be let out more frequently throughout the day. Throughout the night she is good, with no accidents for around 7-8 hours.

Stevie loves playing with her toys, and will occupy herself doing so. Every day the toy bin will be emptied and toys flug around the living room! She still has a bit of puppy antics and will test to see what she can nibble on, or use as a toy, but she is quick to listen if told no. She LOVES her chewy Nyla bones, treats, and especially praise.

Stevie has learned the command “sit” and is very soft about taking food and treats. She has also learned the command “up” when we are picking her up to carry her or help her onto the couch. She is working on door manners, and not rushing the door when people are coming and going. She only does this as she wants to go with you, not as an escape tactic but still, caution around doors has to be had to ensure she doesn’t run out.

Stevie is the sweetest soul and will let you pick her up, and handle her with no trouble. At her last groom, we were sent photos of her asleep on the grooming table! She truly soaks in all the love anyone provides. As a non-shedding dog, Stevie’s new home should expect to schedule regular grooming appointments, and brushing sessions to keep her coat mat and tangle free. Coton’s coats are super soft, but are high maintenance to look after so Stevie’s new owners will have to have this in mind.

Stevie is placed within her crate for car rides, and sits quietly throughout the trip. She is still nervous about going into the car, but with repeated rides to fun places we are sure she will gain confidence with this quickly.
She has received a clean bill of health from the vet, has been spayed, and is up to date on all her vaccines.

If you are looking to adopt a true sweetheart- Stevie is here! She is the most lovable companion and thrives in the presence of people. Her perfect forever family would be home often, offering a loving, patient environment. Stevie will be a perfect match for anyone ready to give their heart to a loving little floofy friend.
