Vicki

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

Go ahead…look at this girl and tell me she is not so uniquely adorable! Meet Vicki, the senior girl full of affection and just the right dash of sass. Vicki is a 12.5-year-old Chinese Crested dog that is full of a zest for life and wants nothing more than to be with her person, to give and receive affection and enjoy some adventures together. She is a petite girl, weighing approximately 10lbs but don’t let her small size fool you, there is a lot of personality in this little package!

Vicki was surrendered to a pound in Quebec through no fault of her own. In fact, we can’t quite wrap our heads around why this lovely girl found herself abandoned at over 12 years old after being with her family since she was a puppy. She is such a funny, sweet, spunky girl who makes her foster mom laugh every day and is a joy to live with. In the home, she is a wonderful guest. Vicki is not destructive, rarely barks and is content to curl up in a cozy bed by herself if you are busy around the house.  Vicki is house and crate trained and happily walks into her crate when you are leaving the house or heading to bed at night.

When she came into foster, it was evident Vicki hadn’t been cared for in awhile as her skin was very flaky, her nails overgrown, and she was overweight. She did, however, have the loveliest personality and settled into her foster home very quickly. Fast forward a few months and she is at a healthy weight; her skin is much improved, and she is even lovelier than we first thought. She walks well on leash and can keep up a good pace for her twice daily 30min walks. She is not demanding of exercise and will take whatever you have to offer, but her walks really help to keep her in good physical shape, and she needs the mental enrichment that comes along with them. Usually, she ignores other animals on her walks but can occasionally be a little barky at certain energies of dogs. With people, she is always eager to meet them, but young, loud children are not her favourite. She’d rather interact with more laid-back people so a home with young children would not be suitable for her. Vicki is looking for a home with older teens or adults only. Although she does live alongside other dogs quite well right now, she really does like to have her person’s attention all to herself. If she is to live with another dog, it would be best if it is a smaller male that is content to have a companion and doesn’t feel the need to rough house or get upset if she steals the spotlight. Truly, she would be happiest as the only dog getting all of her person’s love and attention to herself.

Vicki travels really well in the car and is happy to accompany you on any outings you want to take her on. Whatever you are up to doing for the day, she will eagerly partake in as long as she gets to be with you. She loves sitting on a patio while you have a pint and visit friends, she is a great copilot for a road trip, and she is a world call Netflix snuggle buddy. She gets the cutest little grin on her face when she is trying to instigate you into play…add in her little muffled barks and it is impossible to resist her! She does play with toys occasionally but truly, it’s all about you and your engagement with her.

One thing to make note of is that Vicki does have an enlarged heart and a heart murmur. This is being managed quite effectively with medication right now and does not slow her down in the least. In fact, the only thing that stood out was that she was coughing a little when she came into rescue. Other than that, you would never know she had this condition, she certainly isn’t aware of it. Because of this, you do want to keep her exercise more low-key but there is no need to restrict her from her twice daily walks at all. In fact, those help to keep her heart strong, and they bring her so much joy. We are happy to discuss the medication protocol with her future adopters so they are aware of the ongoing need for them. Vicki has no other health issues and has lovely teeth that won’t require a dental as long as she stays on a high quality diet with the option for dental chews or teeth brushing.

Vicki truly is such a gem of a dog. She is really looking forward to finding that special person/family that is going to be by her side in her sunset years. She has a lot of spunk, curiosity, love and life left in her and she really wants someone to share it all with, someone to call her own. If you think this is you, please consider dropping us a line. This very special, deserving girl is looking forward to meeting you!
