William

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

Let me introduce you to William. William, or Sir William, as I sometimes call him, is a 4-month-old, 5.5kg (and growing) Beagle with the happiest personality. He has the typical Beagle markings with a thinner face and freckles all over his legs and belly.  He has a very distinguishable feature with just one dark toe nail while the rest are white. When William first came to the foster home, he was very shy and scared of most things with the exception of people. He was scared of almost anything else that moved, cats, cars, bikes, horses or even objects that were being moved by people he was timid about. Thankfully with help of his foster dog sister and lots of outings William now loves to go and explore!

William would fit well into a lot of situations but he would like to go home with someone that will allow him on the couch and maybe, on cold nights, cuddled on the bed with you. But he does love his dog bed and also carries around his blanket so he always has a comfy place to lay. He loves to snuggle next to someone while they watch TV and is always up for a movie night with snacks.

William loves everyone! People especially. From young to old, William will meet them with such happiness it will for sure put a smile on anyone’s face. He can be shy at first meeting new dogs, but if given some time and an appropriate meeting, William comes around and will play with dogs big and small. William currently lives with a big dog and a very shy cat and does very well.

Currently William travels with his foster mom daily for work so isn’t great at being home alone yet. He will stay in his crate and whines and barks at the beginning but settles after a few minutes. Because of this, he would be best in a detached home so he doesn’t disturb the neighbours. At night he is in a crate and at most, whines slightly for a minute or two then settles to bed. He is good on leash for walks but will pull if he gets excited and wants to go faster. He will need more training to help him be the best pup on the leash. He also prefers to do his business at a familiar place (like home) but if he really needs to go, he will if desperate enough. This is another reason a detached house with a yard is preferred.

He is getting better at house training. On his best days he will hit the bell on the door to ask to be let out. He still occasionally has off days, (usually if there are changes like company over, or a new dog visiting) and needs someone watching closely to see the subtle signs that he needs out before there is a little accident. He currently needs outside to pee multiple times a day so someone that is working from home or that could take him to work would make the transition easier on him. At night he can usually last from about 9pm to 6am, but still might occasionally need and extra pee break in the middle of the night still.  Puppies need regular outings and can only be crated for a few hours before needing to go out so his person or family will need to have a schedule that can accommodate a puppies need for regular pee breaks.    Please keep in mind that if you work from home you need to have a plan in place for a crating schedule for William as puppies need 100% of your supervision when not in their crates; you cannot expect to work and have the puppy running around in the room with you as they won’t have your full attention.  We are also looking for a family or person that is fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved.  Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly.  They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate.  They are totally worth the work though and its so rewarding to be able to train your puppy and help mold it into the dog you want it to become.

Beagles are a hunting breed and as such are higher energy and need a lot of outdoor exercise.   This is not a breed for those that just want a casual stroll around the block and then done.   William will need his people to be aware of the needs of the Beagle breed and are looking for a dog that is up for all adventures.   This breed is known for following their nose when outside and cannot be off leash unless in a secure fenced area.  They are known for their friendly and outgoing nature and are a generally healthy breed and excellent family dogs.

This cutie will fit into many situations. We expect Willaim to go through basic training at a minimum, but believe that he would excel in advance levels of training and would be beneficial to ensure that William can quickly become the perfect pup for your home.
