Chandler, Joey, and Ross

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle.

These little cuties are 10 week old Chihuahua/ Min Dachshund mix breed puppies that are looking for their forever homes.   These boys have been named after the “Friends” characters as they as such good friends to have!  So please meet Ross, Chandler and Joey!  They are teeny tiny little pups and currently weigh in the 2 to 3.5lb range and we expect that they will top out around or less than 10lbs full grown. We ask that you please read this bio in detail if interested as these pups need a very specific home and family and will not be suitable for every living situation.  We are looking for individual homes for these pups so they can all get the time, attention and full focus of their families.

These pups had a rough start to their lives.  They were found next to their deceased mom in December on the side of the road in a Northern Manitoba remote community.  Thankfully they were found and made their way into the care of Save a Dog Network Canada.  These pups were suffering from hypothermia and, as such teeny puppies are so fragile and need warmth and nutrition at all times, they were also hypoglycemic.   Thankfully Ross and Joey were able to recover with the rescue’s care but Chandler was in dire straits and needed emergent veterinary care to recover.  He pulled through, such a strong fighting spirit in such a tiny body!!  When the pups were all healthy and old enough, they flew in to Ontario to join our rescue.  These pups also had lice which was treated and are now happy, healthy pups who are doing fantastic. Although small, these pups are mighty in spirit!

Ross is the largest pup of this tiny pack.  He takes over more of the Dachshund body type but isn’t as long backed as a Dachshund which will hopefully mean less risk of disc issues when older.  He is 3.5lbs right now and will be a small but sturdier dog.  He is a real cuddler and wants nothing more than to be snuggling with his people.  Joey is the middle-sized pup and at 2.5lbs right now,  much more of a Chihuahua body type.  He is a lover and he is all about the kisses! If you don’t enjoy a dog giving you kisses on the face then this isn’t the pup for you. Joey has a ton of kisses to give and he won’t be happy being denied his affections.  Chandler is the smallest of the pups and he has a Chihuahua body type. He is a whole 2 pounds and although growing, will never be more than a tiny dog.  He is the busy, adventurous puppy. He is playful and always into things. He will cuddle when he is tired, but until then, he has things he needs to do!! Jumping and climbing on your legs when you are sitting on the floor and pulling on pantlegs is super fun and he loves using his people as a jungle gym and climbing and jumping all over you when you are on the floor with him.  All of the pups love this, but Chandler takes it to a whole other level!! We often have to save him from himself as his adventurous spirit gets the better of him and makes him think he can make jumps that he can’t.

Ross, Chandler, and Joey!

We can’t stress enough how small and fragile these pups are.  We know how adorable they are and how strong the urge will be to want to have one of these itty bitty darlings.  But we need to ensure that anyone interested in them knows fully what living with a tiny dog will entail.  They are fined boned pups, especially Joey and Chandler.  They will break easily.  These pups cannot have rough handling or be allowed to jump off furniture or be dropped in any way at all.  As such they will not be suitable pups for any family with children under 12yrs of age.  And even at that, if there are teens in the home, and even with the adults, there has to be a high awareness of the pup and how easy it would be to step on them or accidentally hurt them as they are fast and get underfoot.  They move quickly and you have to walk with shuffling steps when the pups are out around you.  They are just too fragile of puppies for home with young children.  Especially in the coming months of puppyhood, extreme care needs to be taken to ensure that they are handled properly and kept safe.  Even as adult dogs they will be delicate dogs and will need extra care.  They can go to homes with cats as long as the cats won’t harm them. They will be smaller than the average cat and although they have all the spunk in the world, the reality is that a cat with ill intentions could easily beat them up.   They can also go to a home with another dog as long as the other dog is small as well, under 25lbs, and good natured.  They are fostered with other dogs and have met through a baby gate, but as the foster dogs are medium to X large sized dogs, we can’t allow them to interact as we don’t want to risk unintentional injury to the pups.

Even though they will always be small dogs, we do expect that their families will be committed to obedience training. These pups will need to be attending puppy social classes right after adoption, followed by, at minimum, a level one basic obedience course.  These pups need to be taught manners, obedience, and be properly socialized and exercised.  Just because they are small does not mean that they don’t need the structure and training that comes from dog school.  We have all seen those yappy and snappy little dogs being carted around by people who put no time into training their small dogs.  We want our pups to be well mannered, well socialized members of society who are a great representation of how a tiny dog should behave.  They will need to be walked every day (when older) and ensure that they are getting out and about to meet people, go places, and do all the things that a bigger dog gets to do. We want these pups to have a full life, and not be restricted in what they can do because they weren’t trained properly.  We are also looking for people that know how important it is to not carry these dogs around in purses or bags, but to teach them to walk properly on leash and be independent and have the confidence to walk with their people.  We are firm believers in the importance of training and socialization regardless of the size of the dog and are looking for families for them that are equally committed to this.

We will only consider homes for the pups where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day.  Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day.  We are also looking for families that are fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved.  Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly.  They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house-training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate.  We are also looking for a family that will crate train the pups as we fully believe that this is the best for pups and offers them a quiet and secure “den” to call their own.  A crate trained pup is a blessing as it offers a safe place to put them when you can’t be watching them all the time.

These pups are too little to be neutered before adoption so adopters must live within a reasonable distance (within an hour) of Cambridge as they must be returned to our vet at 6 months of age to be neutered (included in adoption cost). Adopters must be able to drop them off in the morning and pick up later that day for this surgery.  Adopters will be responsible for the continuation of puppy vaccinations and all other required vet care at their veterinarian of choice.  These pups have had everything medically that a puppy their age should have and have been microchipped as well. The forever family must also not have any holidays away planned for months coming up after adoption or be planning to move in the near future. Stability is key in months after adoption.

These pups are eager to meet their new families!! If you are a tiny dog person and are committed to doing the best by a pup then one of these pups might just be your next best friend!!
