Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle.

Hello everyone, let me introduce you to the most gentle, precious dog, Kneesaa (nee-sah). Kneesaa is a 7 year old Yorkshire Terrier. She is absolutely beautiful with a tan face, red ears and salt and pepper body. Kneesaa weighs a healthy 10 pounds. She has the most adorable underbite which always makes it look like she is smiling.

Kneesaa is wonderful and sweet girl with a sensitive and gentle nature. She is incredibly loving and loves to snuggle whether that be in your arms being carried around or on the couch! Kneesaa also has a wonderfully playful side when she feels safe. Kneesaa spent the first 7 years of her life in a for profit breeding situation. Kneesaa was not treated with love or kindness and this long term trauma has caused her to be unsure around some humans. Kneesaa needs a home that is very calm and patient that will allow her to learn that she is safe and loved. Kneesaa came to us almost 4 months ago and has been working very hard at learning to be a dog and that not all humans will cause her harm. Kneesaa was incredibly shut down when she first came into rescue and will continue to need time, space and consistency to be able to grow into her best self. Kneesaa is a shy dog but once she feels safe she is a joy to have around with little quirks that will entertain you. Kneesaa’s confidence is improving every day but she still has a long way to go. Kneesaa will need a home with soft, caring humans who will give her space and time and make her a priority in their life so that she can grow into her best self. Kneesaa’s forever home needs to be a very soft, gentle, and quiet household. Kneesaa is more nervous around men than women and tends to bond much easier with women. If there are men in the house they will need to be very gentle and soft and they will need to let Kneesaa decide when she is ready to come to them.

All members of Kneesaa’s family should be at least 14 years old as young children in the home would be too noisy and chaotic for her gentle nature. Kneesaa would do best in a home where children are not frequent visitors. Kneesaa needs space and time to assess her environment before she is ready to meet new people or engage in new situations. Once Kneesaa feels safe she will be very engaging and you will have a snuggle bug for life. If you rush this process, Kneesaa will regress and will be leery of her new home for a long time. As loud noises scare her Kneesaa needs a home that is in a quiet neighbourhood or rural area. Kneesaa loves feeling safe enough in her neighbourhood to take walks and explore the outside world at her own pace.   Kneesaa is a flight risk and needs a securely fenced in yard that she will be able to use while she adapts to her new home. Kneesaa would do best in a detached home or semi detached home as an apartment or condo would likely have to many unknown noises that would stress Kneesaa.

Kneesaa is incredibly people oriented and loves being around the humans she trusts. She really finds her spark being part of a loving family. As such she would not appreciate being left alone for long periods. Being left alone every day for a standard work day plus commute would be too long for her nervousness. Kneesaa LOVES being carried and often asks to be picked up so if you cannot frequently carry 10lbs of snuggly dog then Kneesaa isn’t the right dog for you!  Kneesa will stand on her hind legs and put her front legs up in a “pick me up” motion when she wants to be carried or cuddled..it is adorable!!!  Kneesaa needs to be carried down log flights of stairs but as she’s probably in your arms already this shouldn’t be a problem.

As I mentioned before Kneesaa is a flight risk. When Kneesaa is scared or startled she will just run and she will not stop running until she is in a safe spot, and this little girl is fast! Kneesaa can never be off leash if she is in an unsecured area. Kneesaa must also never be given the opportunity to run out a door if she is off leash. Keeping Kneesaa safe must be a top priority. Kneesaa will need her humans to go outside with her on leash when she needs to do her business. Kneesaa cannot just be let out into the back yard to do her business, she needs her humans to go out with her or she is not sure what she is supposed to be doing. Kneesaa has been doing very well with toilet training but it has been a long journey, which is very typical for the Yorkshire Terrier Breed. Kneesaa will certainly have accidents when she is first in her forever home and it may take many weeks before she figures out her new routine and where she is supposed to go to the bathroom. Kneesaa’s forever family will need to know that toilet training her will take time and patience and that they mustn’t scold her as this can make her more nervous.

Health wise Kneesaa has a very sensitive stomach. If switching her foods or introducing new treats this will need to be done very, very slowly to limit the number of accidents and to minimize the risk of diarrhea. She had a rough start to adjusting to a proper diet but since then her stomach has been much better. Kneesaa was spayed and had dental work to have her rotten teeth pulled and is in much better health than she was when she entered Pound Dogs care! Kneesaa also had a lump removed from under her tongue. Thankfully the results of histopathology were that the mass was benign and that it is unlikely to reoccur.

Kneesaa absolutely LOVES going for walks in the forest. Kneesaa has very little legs but she likes them moving. Kneesaa is her most confident and her happiest when we are walking in the quiet forest. She loves all the smells and she has even recently started engaging in a bit of play in the forest. This crazy little darling is also a big fan of the snow! It took the first snow fall before we got our first tail wag out of Kneesaa. Kneesaa walks well on leash and the only time you might get a pull is when she gets spunky and wants to run for a minute. Kneesaa has this silly move that we refer to as her “rock lobster” dance. She will just randomly stop on her walk and flip on to her back and start squirming around. It is the most adorable thing and you can tell Kneesaa is very happy while she is “dancing”. Usually we bring a dog carrier with us because Kneesaa gets very excited and wants to keep walking on the trail but sometimes we go a little too far and she can’t quite make it back. Kneesaa is more than happy to have a ride in the carrier back as she loves to watch what is going on in the forest even if her feet aren’t on the ground. When Kneesaa comes home from our walks she will frequently have the “zoomies” and run laps around our kitchen and living room. It took a while to figure out that is what she was doing because Kneesaa also paces in circles when she is nervous or scared. You will know the difference because when she has the zoomies she just looks so happy running around. Kneesaa loves going for pack walks with other dogs in the forest. She is not a big fan of dogs that are pushy and gets nervous if they look at her before she is ready but she very much loves walking behind them and learning from them. Her reaction to a dog that is entering her space before she is ready is to turn away from them and make some distance. Kneesaa currently lives with another dog and they simply co-exist together. The other dog is older than her and does not fuss with her and Kneesaa is quite happy with that. Kneesaa would do well with another dog in the house who will give her space or as an only dog in the house with the opportunity to go for pack walks with respectful dogs. Kneesaa does well in the car. It would likely be beneficial to have a booster seat to help her see out the window. Kneesaa, as much as she loves her walks, also loves to be held and snuggled. When Kneesaa is feeling nervous in new situations she likes to have her humans hold her and let her observe the environment from the safety of their arms. It helps her build her confidence and when in that situation again she is usually able to get through it on her own. When Kneesaa is feeling overwhelmed and needs her humans help in a situation she will go up on her hind legs and reach up with her front paws to ask for help. It is absolutely adorable and when you pick her up she will often snuggle her head into your neck as if to say “thank you, I needed you”.

Kneesaa is a wonderful dog who is happiest being around humans who she trusts. Though she is a very nervous dog, once she feels safe she is the most gentle, kind, snugly and quirky little dog. She is full of love and happiness and just needs a soft and patient family to give that back to her.
