Kenny

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

I take great pleasure in introducing you to Kenny.  Kenny is a darling miniature poodle that is approximately 4 years old.  He weighs approximately 10 pounds and is a beautiful apricot colour.  Kenny is such a handsome little guy with a wonderful temperament and personality. He is on the hunt for his forever family and has so much to offer them! If you are looking for a comical, super smart and affectionate companion, keep reading…he’s going to steal your heart!

Kenny did not have a great first part of his life, but he is ready to take on the world and live his best life ever! He came from a breeding for profit environment and as such, did not experience the kindness, care, and socialization that all dogs deserve. In fact, he came into our care with a dislocated hip that had been like that for quite some time. One can only imagine the pain he experienced with that condition, and no one seemed to care to get him the veterinary attention he needed. But this little trooper of a dog proved to be tough, resilient, and not willing to let that get him down. Even though he was living in constant discomfort and pain his tail never stopped wagging. He wanted to go on all the adventures with you and give and receive all the love. His hip has since been surgically repaired and his mobility is much improved and will continue to get better…most of all, he is now pain free and his spirit is really shining!

Regardless of his previous experience with people, Kenny loves everyone he meets from children to adults. He will cuddle with and accept affection from anyone who wants to offer it. Due to his previous hip injury, he would be best suited to a home with children 12 and up or an adult only home, people of an age that can understand his previous injury and the need to be aware of how he is handled and exercised.

Kenny is always ready and willing to play, he is such a fun-loving guy! In fact, he is much like a joyful puppy now that he has discovered how fun life can be. And toys…the MOST fun! He loves to play with his ball and will retrieve it and bring it back time and time again. He shows no possessiveness over his toys and is happy to share them with you to engage in a game whenever you are willing.

Inside the home, Kenny is a wonderful companion. Now that he is neutered, his marking behaviour is gone and he is house trained. He sleeps in his crate at night nicely and will let you sleep the night through. Kenny does have some separation anxiety and that manifests in barking. If you know the poodle bark, it is not one that is suited to attached living environments when it can go on for extended periods of time. For this reason, his future home needs to be a detached home. He would prefer people that will be home more than not but are also committed to helping him build his independence in being left alone. Kenny gets along well with other dogs and would be happy to have a canine companion of his size or slightly bigger, but it really is not a requirement…he’s really all about his people.

Kenny is working on basic obedience and knows that ‘sit’ brings some great rewards. He is learning to walk in a more structured way. He LOVES to learn and has the typical poodle intelligence. Kenny’s future family needs to be committed to taking him to at minimum a basic level of obedience in a group training class and will also be dedicated to working his brain as well as giving him the physical exercise he needs. Kenny will adjust to whatever home he lives in, but he will truly thrive in a home where he is learning and adventuring with his people regularly.

There are no outstanding medical issues with Kenny. He has had a dental cleaning on top of his hip repair. There is one tooth that may need to be extracted in the future as it is crowding some nearby teeth and is rotated slightly, but it is causing no issues right now and is healthy. Keeping an eye on this tooth during his annual check ups is all that is required at this point.

Anyone interested in Kenny needs to think ahead to the holiday season…are you travelling?  Having large gatherings at your home?   Then sadly this won’t be an ideal time to be bringing a new dog into the home.  But if you have a travel free holiday season and will be mostly be spending quiet days and nights at home, then this would be a great time to introduce a new dog into the home.  All new dogs need consistency and routine in the weeks and months following an adoption so we have to ask all our applicants to think ahead as to what the holidays realistically will look like before submitting an application for this guy.

Kenny is simply the sweetest, most affectionate, and joyful little guy around. He has a zest for life and that little tail of his never stops wagging. Want a travel companion who will love a day trip or a long road trip equally? He is your guy. Want to sit on a patio in the summer for a pint while everyone around you comments on the sweet, adorable dog that is at your side? Well, that’s Kenny. He just wants to live life with his person and explore the world with them every chance he can get. If you think this is the dog for you, we look forward to hearing from you about the life you have to offer him…he’s ready when you are!
