This adorable, fun girl is Krissey! Krissey is a mix of Pointer, Hound and Collie. She was one of the three puppies they found on the side of the road in Brantford, you may of heard about them on the news. When rescued they were very malnourished with worms, so obviously they did not have a good first 7 weeks of life. She and her siblings have been in our care since 8 weeks old, learning what a warm, safe environment is like. Being on a healthy diet their coats are soft and shinny. They have had their checkups with the Vet and are doing great.
They are now 12 weeks old and ready to go to their forever homes.
Krissey has a mixture of colour, mainly black body with pure white on her chest and paws. Her legs are long so it looks like she will be large dog, more in height than weight (about 50-65lbs full grown). Krissey is showing that she will be a high energy dog capable of doing anything you wish to participate in.
Krissey is quite the cuddler and loves nothing more than to lie on your lap and fall asleep after a good day of walks and play. She will chew on things, but she will settle with a good chew bone. Her favourite spot is lying on the last step of our staircase with her bone. She is very easy going pup, will be ready for any adventures awaiting her.
She is a little unsure of people and other dogs at first, but eventually warms up on her terms. She needs continued socialization to build her confidence. She enjoys running outside and going on sniffing adventures as well playing with siblings. Krissey is well on her way to being house-trained, will go to the door and sit when she needs out. It is expected that she will have a setback in house-training when she goes to her new home but with consistency and supervision she will learn pretty quick.
We will consider a home for her where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day. She will need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly as she will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. We are also looking for families that are fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate. We are also looking for a family that will crate train as we fully believe that this is the best for pups and offers them a quiet and secure “den” to call their own. A crate trained pup is a blessing as it offers a safe place to put them when you can’t be watching them all the time.
We will consider a home with children over 8yrs of age. She is starting the terrible nippy/jumpy/bitey stage and will be
too much for younger children, plus her tail is long and strong and could cause some worries being at the same level as a very young child. If there will be young children in the home (8yrs to 11yrs) then we would need the family to be experienced dog owners who are fully aware of how to manage a young, excitable puppy with young, excitable children. Supervision is key and the adults in the home would need to ensure that puppy/children management is a task they wish to take on. For a home without young children we would consider 1st time dog owners. Any family considering her needs to take obedience training and socialization seriously and have the time to dedicate in the 1st year especially of her life to this. The more that is done with pups in their 1st year, the better dogs they will be!
A home with or without other dogs is just fine. She is in a home as mentioned with her siblings as well as two other older dogs. A home with a cat would be fine as well keeping in mind that proper training and supervision is key around a cat. A suitable home for Krissey will need to have a fair sized secured fenced yard. Once her nose go to the ground she is on a mission to capture the scent found. She would love people that are active and outdoorsy. She will need a good couple walks a day in all weather. As she matures she will need running/hiking/agility type exercise in order to be happy. She is a mix of hunting breeds and herding breed so will be a very energetic dog who will need a lot of exercise in order to be happy. She is a high energy girl and would be suited for higher energy activities so very active people would be her great fit, if you’re a runner/jogger she would be a great companion once she is full grown.
Krissey is too little to be spayed before adoption so potential adopters must live within a reasonable distance (within an hour) of Cambridge as she must be returned to our vet at 6 months of age to be spayed (included in adoption cost). Adopters must be able to drop her off in the morning and pick up later that day for this surgery. Adopters will be responsible for the continuation of her vaccinations and all other required vet care at their veterinarian of choice. She will have had everything medically that her their age should have and has been microchipped as well. Her forever family must also not have any holidays away planned for months coming up after adoption or be planning to move in the near future. Stability is key in months after adoption.
We will be expecting our adoptive families to attend puppy socialization class immediately upon adoption, along with, at minimum, level 1 obedience school after. The guidance and lessons learned in puppy classes are very important to getting your pup off to a good start. We handle pups every day and will be offering them everything they need to be the best pups they can be when they leave our care but we need the adoptive families to take over for us when they get the pups home. We take our responsibilities very seriously and only want the best for them. We will settle for nothing less than a dedicated, loving family that is well aware of the needs of a puppy. We also are looking for families that want a dog they will grow to become, not just the little bundle of cuteness. If you have been thinking about adding a large breed puppy to your family and have the time and patience to properly raise a pup then Krissey may just be perfect for you. We know you will fall in love with her as deeply as we have when you meet her. She is simply adorable.
