Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.
Meet Apple 🍎 – the sweetest pick of the bunch!
Apple is a sweet-as-pie, 9 year old Pomeranian. Her luscious blonde fluff is super soft and super snuggly! She weighs 13lbs and has an adorable smile thanks to Pound Dog Rescue providing her a much-needed dental.
Apple came into our rescue from a backyard breeder in Quebec, where she was solely used to produce puppies. Those days are behind her now! She’s ready to spend her well-deserved retirement years in a quiet home filled with love, comfort and plenty of cuddles. Apple absolutely loves her people and wants to be around them all the time. She is the ultimate lap dog – if you’re sitting down, chances are it won’t be long before she’ll make her way into your lap.
Apple thrives on companionship and would be happiest in a home where she gets plenty of snuggles and affection. She’s calm, gentle and most content when she’s close to her people. Whether it’s watching TV, reading a book, or working from home, Apple just wants to be wherever you are.
She is a curious little dog while her humans are around. She joyfully walks beside you when out and about and makes a cheerful companion for trips to pet stores, or dog-friendly patios. Wherever you go, Apple is happy to follow.
Apple is a lower energy dog, only needing 1 or 2 half hour walks a day. She will politely let you know if she doesn’t feel up for the walk that day, by climbing back into her crate for a snooze. On the walk she is quite neutral. She doesn’t want to interact with other dogs right now, but this may grow with time.
Apple is currently living with another small dog. She seems to pay him no mind, as her main focus is her humans. She has no interest in playing with dogs and sometimes gets very overwhelmed with larger dogs or dogs with high energy. An ideal home would be a family wanting to give Apple their full love, and she would thrive being the only dog in the home. If another dog is present, they will have to be very calm and independent in sharing their family’s attention. Apple has not been cat tested, but she is very gentle natured, and a dog savvy cat would be suitable to her.
Apple loves to show her tiny dancer moves. This sweet girl expresses herself in circles – and we mean that literally!
Whether she’s excited for breakfast, feeling a bit anxious, or just needs a potty break, Apple will do a few joyful spins to let you know what’s going on.
Her spinning habits are her way of communicating. Hungry? She’ll twirl. Nervous? A quick loop or two. Time to pee? A few circles. But if you see Apple doing zoom-speed circles, it’s go number two time – now! Her little dance never fails to make us smile.
Beyond her spins, Apple is a gentle soul. She’s made great progress in foster care, but she still can get overwhelmed and needs a calm, low-stimulus environment to feel safe. Because of this, she’s looking for a home without young kids. Older teens who are gentle, quiet, and respectful of her space would likely be fine. Her ideal home is a peaceful one – a steady, patient environment where she can blossom at her own pace. She’s happiest in a routine and thrives knowing what to expect. She enjoys sniffing around our fenced in backyard, but it is not a necessity. As long as her forever home can provide regular outdoor time, she’d do just as well in a condo or on leashed walks.
Apple is crate trained and goes happily in there while we are away from home and at night. She gets all her meals in her crate, and when given a cookie or chewy treat will scurry off to enjoy it in there. As mentioned, when Apple is anxious, she will spin around in circles. Her crate is so important for her, as it provides a space for her to feel safe and protected while her humans are away. We find this anxious behaviour is lessoned when she is tucked securely into her crate.
Apple will only let out a soft howl from her crate when she needs to go potty. Other than this, she is not a yappy dog at all. Apple quickly picked up potty training and reliably does her business outside. However, she does require frequent bathroom breaks throughout the day and cannot hold it longer than 4-5 hours. Apple was recently treated for a bladder infection, which we feel contributed to her increased need to go out. Since finishing her antibiotics, she’s already doing much better, and we suspect she’ll be able to go longer between potty breaks as time goes on.
Apple is the sweetest soul and prefers to be picked up and in your arms. Grooming and brushing her is no trouble, she loves all the attention. She has learned the command “up” when we are picking her up to carry her or help her onto the couch.
During our longer car rides, Apple goes into her crate for the trip. She prefers when we allow her to sit seat belted in with a harness and will lay down happily in the backseat on her bed.
Apple has been given a clean bill of health by the vet, is spayed, and fully up to date on all her vaccinations. She also had a dental procedure that included some tooth extractions – she now has 9 teeth left. Not to worry – it hasn’t slowed her down one bit when it comes to enjoying her meals or treats.
If you are looking for a constant companion to share your days (and your couch), Apple is your girl! She is ready to be your loyal sidekick, and to live out her best, and much deserved, retirement years in a home filled with love.
