Brodie

ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

This handsome little man is Brodie.  He is a beautiful merle coloured miniature poodle who tips the scale at just under 15 pounds.  He has a thick and curly poodle coat with splashes of black, grey and white.  He is a 2 year old puppy mill discard that Pound Dog rescued and brought into their care.  He is a happy puppy and always willing to please.  He recently received his vaccinations, micro chipping, was neutered and had his teeth cleaned.  He has received a clean bill of health and is ready to look for his forever home.

In just a few short weeks Brodie has shed his scared, shy exterior and has evolved into a happy, lovable little companion.   He loves his humans and always wants to be around them, or on them.  Brodie is the epitome of a lapdog.  He is happiest snuggling, cuddling and licking his humans.  He will lovingly follow you everywhere and will sometimes end up getting in your feet.  You will need to be aware of his location so as not to trip.  I mention this from experience as I have tripped over this little guy a time or two.

Brodie is currently living with 2 Standard Poodles.  Everyone is 5 times his size, but he still walks around with confidence.  He lives alongside the other dogs but does not really play or interact much with them.  So if you are looking for a playmate for your dog, Brodie is not that dog for you.  He is more interested in human interaction and will be a great pet for an older family or couple looking for their first dog.  He is quiet and loving but Brodie is still trying to figure out like in a home.  He was never raised in a house, so flooring, furniture and house noises are all still new to him.  He walks/runs outside with confidence, but inside he is still a bit unsure of himself.  He takes on new things well and is still adjusting to his life but every day he becomes more and more comfortable.  Brodie is a snuggler more than a player and loves to have couch time with his humans.

Brodie has settled well into a regular routine.  He sleeps a solid 8 hours and is house trained.  He will go to the back door when he needs outside, however he will need to be watched as he is still adjusting to home life.  If you miss the chance to let him outside, he could have an accident.  Brodie is still being crate trained and does not always love this process.  He will quietly vocalize his unhappiness for a few minutes and then will settle down and go to sleep.  He is occasionally crated when we leave home for a max of 2 hours.  We just give him a treat and quietly leave the house without any further interaction.  Crating is still a work in progress, but overall Brodie has been a quiet little boy.

Brodie is considered hypoallergenic as he is a hair breed dog.  With this comes regular brushing, bathing, ear cleaning and grooming.  Brodie has handled all his baths and grooming really well.  I have done a full groom on him without any issue.  This breed requires regular brushing so that matting does not occur.

Brodie loves the outdoors and his walks.  He is still trying to master the art of leash walking.  He does need further training and encouragement to walk confidently on leash.  He does tend to fall behind and sometimes needs to be reminded where he should be walking.  He does take treats now on walks so that is being used as a positive reinforcement.  Brodie is an extremely smart boy and loves to please his humans.  He will be an excellent candidate for advanced training and/or tricks.  All of this will help him flourish and grow into a confident little man.

Since Brodie is a quiet small dog, his home can come in many shapes or sizes.  He likes to putter in the yard but does not need anything large to run around in.  He mainly wants to hang with his humans rather than run and play.  He does require someone that is home more than away and is willing to show him and encourage him in his new world.  He is a quiet and curious boy who will really benefit from a forever family that will take him to new places.  By expanding his environment, Brodie will continue to grow, which is what he needs most.  He has spent the first two years of his life in a barn in a puppy mill.  He has so much to see and experience!  Brodie prefers a quiet and stable household so teen children or older is his preference.  Brodie has been a joy to foster, and he packs a lot of love into that tiny little body.  Are you looking for a cuddly couch companion?
