ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

Little Eadie is a 4mth old Shih Tzu. She will steal your heart and your shoes. This happy, furball is just over 7 lbs and should grow to be somewhere between 9-16 lbs.

Eadie came into rescue as a puppy from a puppy mill. She thankfully shows no lingering negative effects of her upbringing in the mill. She has proven herself to be quite joyful, curious and outgoing.

We’ve made sure to expose Eadie to lots of things since starting her care with us- vehicle noise/movement, kids, seniors, car rides, men in high-visibility gear, different walking surfaces, dog friendly shops etc, She has done so well! She likes to help with the sweeping, and will tell the vacuum to “Be quiet!”. She fits under some furniture, so she will likely help you dust as well. Eadie isn’t particularly barky, but she may make a little noise initially in new situations or may bark at unfamiliar sounds or other barking dogs. On a normal day she is pretty quiet, only making happy little noises at playtime. Eadie likes her walks. She’s a little crazy on the leash right now, but she’s still learning. Eadie usually would like 2, 10-15 min sniff walks per day right now. She does fine without a walk if it’s too hot out, we just provide some extra enrichment indoors.

Eadie would be a great dog for someone who wants a furry friend that will accompany them wherever they go- though she isn’t a velcro dog- she is just fun and portable! Eadie settles well and has no problem being alone. Her foster mom works from home, but Eadie is on her own in her enclosure for about 2-3 hours at a time 2-3 times a day. She will go into the crate on her own. She eats and sleeps in her crate. We use the same crate for sleeping, feeding, daytime relaxing and for car rides. It’s a plastic travel crate. She does great in it in the car. She will sometimes grumble for a few seconds though initially.

Eadie, being a puppy, loves to chew. Her favourite things to chew are garden mulch and sticks. She will attempt to sample the garden, so it’d be good to know which plants are and aren’t dog-safe. She doesn’t get much opportunity to chew on household objects, but it’s something her adopters should be aware of so they can keep her and their stuff safe for now until she grows out of this phase and understands what the boundaries are.

Housetraining is going well. Eadie will start circling or running around if she needs to go out. She may have the occasional accident if her cues are missed. She has done so well though so far, it won’t take long for her to have her housetraining down pat. She typically pees every 2-3 hours when active, and/or about 20-30 min after a big drink. Overnight she holds it for about 6 hours, so expect to take her out once in the middle of the night until she is a little more grown up and can hold it longer.

Eadie would be happy as an only dog, or as a sibling to your other pets. She hasn’t been cat tested specifically, but we see no reason why she wouldn’t want one as a buddy. She hasn’t shown much in the way of prey drive when it comes to squirrels, birds, or even the frog she met the other day. Eadie would be fine in a home with kids 8+ years of age. She is good with kids, but very young children will be too overstimulating for Eadie.

Eadie will require regular professional grooming. She gets a little impatient with baths but a lick mat has helped keep her more interested. Brushing every 2-3 days or daily (depending on hairstyle) is required for this breed. She is pretty wiggly for brushing right now. We usually use 2 brushes so she can chew on one while we use the other- and then switch when she realizes what’s happening (typical puppy antics!). Eadie is up to date with her vaccinations, is spayed and has a clean bill of health. She has a booster shot coming up soon so she will get more practice at the vet, but so far the vet has been a positive experience for her.

If you’re looking for a happy fluffball to join your family Eadie is your girl!
