Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

Meet Kylo, a 10-year-old poodle mix who came to us from a shelter in Quebec. He is a small breed dog with a calm, loving demeanor. Kylo weighs 20 pounds, loves his treats, but won’t eat you out of house and home. He is against long walks on the beach, but enjoys short walks to the bus to pick up his tiny human. Kylo came to us in a state of terrible neglect and a lot of medical issues from a lifetime of poor nutrition and lack of care, but we have worked through them all and he is now a healthy and happy boy who is ready to find a loving forever home where he can spend his retirement years being coddled!

Kylo came from the shelter in Quebec, where he was dropped off after spending 10 years with his previous family. When we took him in, he was a nervous Nellie and wouldn’t eat for several days. With a week or so of love and affection from our family he literally began bouncing around the house in excitement. Although he doesn’t have the biggest appetite he now is eating regularly and is healthy because of quite a bit of TLC from the vet. Don’t be alarmed if he doesn’t eat during the day, he usually eats later in the evening, but he will eat treats no matter the time of day. He currently eats a dish of wet and dry food mixed, don’t worry if you run out of wet food. He will eat the dry food as is. Kylo had bladder stones and crystals and as such he has to only eat his urinary diet from the vet. This can be purchased at most veterinarian clinics but anyone interested in Kylo will need to be totally committed to keeping him on this diet and not feeding him people food or other treats. His urinary diet has treats options as well. His bladder stones were removed but this diet will help prevent more from occurring.

Kylo is a great dog who loves to be by your side. He will follow you from room to room and place to place. He loves to be around people but does not need to be on your lap, he just wants to be near you. He doesn’t jump up on furniture but will sit with you in the couch if you place him up there. He is a very good companion and friend. He doesn’t ask much out of his person and isn’t one to bug continuously for attention, but he will take any love and affection you give him.

Kylo doesn’t require crating at night, he prefers at night to sleep in his pet bed, and be near his food and water. Kylo is fully housetrained, no accidents, even when left home alone for up to 5 to 8 hours. He will greet you with jumps and barks upon your return. He is great with cats, other small dogs, hamsters and even fish. He is very calm and cool with our cats, the kitten is always playing with his tail, jumping on his back, and he has no reactions. He loves her affections, they even most days share a pet bed . He has no issues with gentle natured older children, our son is 7 and they get along well. He will not enjoy the energy , noise and quick movements of younger children or a home with many children though. Kylo is in his golden years and would like a quiet and calm home. An adult only home would be ideal, but a home with an older child who is a quieter sort and would like the companionship of an older dog would suit him well.

He doesn’t do stairs inside our home (wood floors) but will do stairs outside. If you have wood floors in the home that he would have to manage, he will have to be carried. He has some vision impairments that are most notable when it’s dark. So at night before bed he is carried down the deck stairs so he can do is business, but will come back up on his own. He barks to come in but doesn’t bark to go out, he will hover near the door when needing to be let out. He has some hearing impairments as well so we ensure that we don’t startle him and make our presence known if he is sleeping or his back is turned to us.

Kylo is a great passenger in the car, has no fear and will go with you anywhere! He is a great travel companion! Kylo would be a great fit for someone who is looking for a calm, loving, loyal companion. He would be a great for someone who works from home or is retired as he loves to be around people. He is not a very active dog he would rather snuggle up and spend his day with you than be outside chasing squirrels. A fenced in back yard is a must, he enjoys checking out the edges of the fence to explore all of your property. Especially on nice days he will spend long amounts of time outside exploring.

If you are looking for a quiet, calm, and loving little senior dog to love who won’t cause you much trouble at all, this may just be the dog for you. He has had extensive vetting done and is almost good as new now !!! He has had a full dental, had his bladder stones taken care of, had ear infections cleared up, bloodwork has been done and he has had some xrays as well. He has been quite the project for our vet team, but he is totally worth it and we are so happy to be able to give this lovely dog the care that he was so desperately lacking prior. He will be a great friend for a lucky person or family!
