ADOPTION PENDING
Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.
Meet the adorable little Muki! A 3mth old Bichon/Poodle mix weighing at just about 5 pounds with a few more pounds to go til full grown. All black with few patches of white, she is a fun loving little puppy.
Muki was rescued from a puppy mill so she can be a bit timid when first meeting new people. She just never had any socialization prior to rescue so is playing catch up. Her curiosity usually wins over quickly though as she has a loving personality. She will keep you company everywhere you go. She enjoys belly rubs and snuggling up on the sofa, sleeping by your side or chewing on her toy. She loves going through the toy basket and plays well alone but is also quite good at fetch. She does have the typical puppy energy coming in waves and gets the zoomies a few times a day. She also enjoys resting by the backdoor to spy on the backyard birds. She can get startled by loud noises but is not afraid of thunderstorms on the other hand. Muki is a good balance of active playful puppy while also having some quiet downtime.
She quickly adjusted to her new environment and is not fussy about food, eating her dry kibbles without problem. She is a fast eater though so using a slow bowl works well to pace her down. She has no prey drive around food or toys.
House training has been going well. Muki is being taken out to the backyard every few hours. She is starting to understand that the backdoor is where to go when time calls. She also quickly learned that doing her business outside deserves a little treat and is also learning to sit for it. Anyone interested in Muki needs to understand tho that housetraining a puppy of this age is an ongoing venture and they need to continue with the training once in her new home.
Muki has adjusted to her crate well. She now settles in quietly at night with the crate set in the bedroom. She usually goes out to pee once a night as she is still quite young and is fine being right back in the crate afterwards. She is quiet until it is time to get up. During the day, with the crate downstairs, she is quiet in it when left alone. If you leave the house, she might cry a bit at first but quickly settles in, as shows on the home camera. She has been left alone for about 3h so far without issue. She would be good in any settings.
During the day, she usually sleeps or plays quietly with her toys. So far, she has not barked much other than when the Swiffer makes an appearance. She is ready to defend you from it! She is learning that it is fine though. And she is good with the vacuum on the other hand. Her more active playtime is later in the day, usually in late afternoon, early evening but she is ready for bed
around 9 pm.
Outside, a small fenced yard would be good. She likes to sniff everything. And if she finds a good stick, she will carry it around the yard proudly, before trying to chew on it. Beware! She is to be watched when earthworms are wiggling around as she finds them very interesting as a potential snack. She is quite small so right now, she is still on a leash outside as she would easily fit in any nook and cranny, and she is fast! She is not always enjoying the leash when it stops her going where she is not supposed to sniff. She was taken to the community mailbox for a quick test walk though and did quite well, following along happily.
Inside the house, Muki also likes to explore and, being puppy, she will try chewing on a variety of things. She is easily distracted from it when a toy is introduced instead. Again, she is a puppy so be vigilant. She is too young to be left to roam in the house without supervision.
Muki is definitely a very smart little dog and will benefit from a Puppy training course to continue her education. She is very food motivated. She has been in the car a few times in a carrier. She is vocal for about 5 minutes but then calms down. A treat before and after always helps.
She has not been around kids. She is quite small and fragile and still nippy so being around small kids is not the best fit. A home with children over the age of 7yrs would be considered for her as long as the children are quieter and respectful. Muki has not been around other dogs at this point yet. She is playful puppy so might enjoy the company of another dog to play along or follow but would be happy with just her human. She would be fine with dog savvy cats who wouldn’t mind the puppy energy and want of play.
Muki is a cute little ball of fluff and is low shedding. She will need professional grooming every few months though. She is pretty good with getting a bath, even though she might not enjoy them. Her fur dries up quickly which is nice as she does not like the loud blow dryer.
Anyone interested in Muki needs to live within 1hr of Cambridge, Ont as she must be returned to our vet later on to be neutered. She will be adopted out on a contract that stipulates this and it is mandatory. This is covered in the adoption fee.
We will only consider homes for Muki where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. Please keep in mind that if you work from home you need to have a plan in place for a crating schedule for the pup as puppies need 100% of your supervision when not in their crates; you cannot expect to work and have the puppy running around in the room with you as they won’t have your full attention. We are also looking for a family that is fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate.
Muki is a very loving puppy and will be a great addition to your life. She will be your little shadow, always ready for a nice cuddle and always so excited to see you when you get home.
