ADOPTED

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

🐾 Meet Queen B!

Meet Queen B, a 4-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is as regal as her name suggests! Cavaliers are known for their beautiful, silky coats, soulful dark eyes, and those signature long, feathered ears that frame their sweet faces perfectly, and Queen B is no exception! Queen B is the picture of elegance wrapped in a cuddly, lovable package. From the moment you meet her, you’ll understand exactly why she earned her royal title!

Queen B came to us from a commercial breeding facility, which means much of her early life was spent focused on one purpose rather than simply being a beloved companion and learning to appreciate things like cozy couches, gentle handling, or the simple pleasure of a belly rub. Because of this background, Queen B may need extra patience and understanding as she learns to trust and settle into the rhythm of a loving home. With time, consistency, and kindness, she is blossoming into the queen she was always meant to be.

Queen B would thrive in a calm, loving home where she can decompress and continue to build her confidence. She is not a high-energy girl; in fact, she’s quite content to take life at a relaxed pace! She enjoys short walks and does best with gentle, low-key exercise.

One of Queen B’s absolute favourite things in the world is snuggles; once she trusts you, she will melt right into your lap and remind you why Cavaliers are known as the ultimate companion dogs. She also loves relaxing outside, soaking up fresh air and sunshine at her own leisurely pace. As a Cavalier, her beautiful coat will require regular brushing to keep it tangle-free and silky, along with routine ear cleaning, as those gorgeous floppy ears can be prone to infections.

Queen B is learning about house training and is figuring out the joys of wandering around sniffing the flowers before watering them!  One of Queen B’s most endearing quirks is that she must wear her “pyjamas” when she goes into her kennel; this cozy ritual seems to help her feel safe and settled, and it is absolutely adorable. Queen B, once in her pyjamas, will generally be quite content in her kennel throughout the day, because she knows an evening of play, walks, and snuggles are her reward. One reward for Queen B is a trip in the car.  Even a short trip to pick up a family member or friends gives her joy.  Queen B travels in a harness built for car rides and will watch the world go by or snuggle down for a nap.  She is a good little travelling companion.

Queen B loves playing with other dogs and lights up when she has a canine companion to interact with. She would likely do very well in a home with another friendly, easygoing dog or with a family that can arrange regular doggy playdates. Queen B hasn’t had much interaction with other animals, but does appear to have some prey drive, as she is very interested in the squirrels, but we think she is just fearful of losing out on snuggles.   We expect she would be just fine with a dog savvy, calm natured cat. Although she is a Cavalier and appears to LOVE everyone, Queen B can be spooked easily.  Children over 9 yrs of age would be fine, as long as they are quiet natured, gently children.  But her ideal home would be one with adults only or teens.

Queen B is just beginning her journey of learning what it means to be a house dog and a companion. She will sit on command for a treat and will follow when told.  Continued positive reinforcement training will be incredibly important for Queen B, not only to teach her manners, but to build her confidence and strengthen the bond she forms with her forever family. Training is truly a gift you can give this girl!

Queen B was spayed in our care.  She has grade 2 tartar which is typical of dogs from mills.   A dental was not required at this time and we wish to give her new diet, exposure to chew toys, and tooth brushing a chance to have a positive effect on her dental health, but a dentistry will probably be required for her in a year or so as is to be expected with small dogs as they mature. We did find that she has corneal dystrophy, which is a slow deposition of grey material in the central cornea.  This is sometimes genetic and common in this breed, but sometimes is related to high triglycerides or poor thyroid function. We did the tests needed to determine the cause and ruled out thyroid or triglyceride issues, and her corneal dystrophy has been determined to be genetic.  It can progress over time and will cause some vision obstruction but is not painful.  She is not bothered by it at all.

Any potential adopters of Queen B will need to be well informed of the health issues that Cavaliers face in their lives and be willing to do routine check-ups and ultrasounds to monitor their heart health.  We will only consider a home for her with those experienced or very knowledgeable with the Cavalier breed and committed to the heart monitoring and general medical upkeep of this breed.  Cavaliers are bred to be extra sweet to make up for the many medical issues that their people need to be aware of and keep on top of to ensure their best life.  They cost extra in quality vet care than most other dogs, but they are so worth it!

Queen B is a sweet, gentle soul who has come a long way from her beginnings and deserves nothing less than a royal forever home. She needs a patient, loving family who will give her the time and space to blossom fully someone who appreciates a dog who loves deeply once she feels safe. Her perfect home would ideally include another friendly dog to play with, a quiet and calm environment, and someone who doesn’t mind the nightly pyjama routine (trust us, you’ll look forward to it as much as she does!). If you’re looking for a snuggle buddy who will reward your patience with unconditional love and loyalty, Queen B just might be your perfect match.
