ADOPTION PENDING
Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.
This handsome boy is Sebastian and he is so excited to start his new life!
Sebastian is approximately 2 years old, and is a Maltese/Terrier mix. He has a soft white and cream coat and a tail that won’t quit. This happy boy weighs about 9lbs and is full of energy. Sebastian needs some time to warm up and gain some confidence but that doesn’t stop him from bursting with joy all day long.
Sebastian was found as a stray after roaming around a neighborhood for weeks. When he was finally caught and brought into the pound, he had a severely matted and damaged coat that made him look a lot like an 80’s rocker. After an urgent trip to the groomer, he was looking and feeling better BUT the seed was already planted, and I had to name this bad boy of rescue Sebastian Bark after the 80’s rock icon Sebastian Bach. Sebastian has come a long way in the short time that he has been with me, but he is still a nervous boy who is looking for a home that can be patient and supportive while he continues to learn and heal.
Sebastian is a relatively quiet dog, only making noise when he feels like he is missing out on something. I think he would be fine living in any type of home environment although it would be lovely for him to have a yard to run in. As long as his new family is ready to provide ample opportunity for exercise and adventure then Sebastian will thrive. He LOVES his walks, and I have not yet found the end of his energy. He currently gets 3-4 walks a day at 20-40 minutes and he would happily do more. In place of extra walks, he will be looking for someone to play with him to help him deal with his liveliness. He is well behaved at all times, but you can literally see him gearing up to run at any given moment so a home that can compliment this energy would be a great gift for him. Sebastian has great leash skills and knows to check in with his handler and stay close. He shows little interest in tine wildlife but even then he is very easily corrected and gets immediately back on track. He is interested in neighbors we encounter and is always willing to give them a sniff but he’s too nervous about anything more than that sniff. His new family will need to advocate for him and make sure his boundaries are met. Weeks as a stray have given Sebastian some street smarts so his new family needs to be ready to do everything they can to ensure he does not get out unattended. This will include walking him using a martingale collar and a tight grip on his leash at all times.
One of my favorite things about Sebastian is his constant joy. He follows me everywhere in the house and his tail never stops wagging, he never stops tap dancing. He is just starting to find the confidence to have a bit of independence in the home and I get great joy out of seeing him relax on the couch by himself. His new home needs to continue to encourage this growth so he can be a resilient boy who can handle being left alone. Sebastian took to his crate very quickly and this is his safe place to rest. He is crated when I am not home or if I am unable to pay attention to him. On a workday this means he is crated in the morning and again in the afternoon with a potty break at lunch. He is also crated overnight and he sleeps soundly, staying quiet until it’s his turn to come out in the morning. He also learned to go to the bathroom outside very quickly and has only had one accident in the house. With proper monitoring and a routine he will be able to carry this skill to his new home. Sebastian has had a few car rides while in my care and he has been sick in the car a few times so it will be important to continue to expose him to the car so he can desensitize. His last two car rides were much easier for him and he laid calmly in his crate without being sick. He is still nervous about new experiences to start so he needs a confident leader to help him find his confidence. He does not need pity or to be coddled as this will only stunt the development of his confidence. Sebastian was a cooperative client at the groomers’ and also for a bath at home. He has a coat that will require regular grooming, so his new family needs to be ready to keep a routine for him either at home or at a professional groomer.
Sebastian is being fostered in a home with multiple dogs and he has shown excellent dog manners. However, he does not seek the other dogs out for companionship or play and is solely focused on his person. He would be fine in a home with other dogs as long as they were similar size and attitude but he would also thrive as the only dog in the home. He has not met any cats, but I assume he would be the same with them so a house with a dog savvy cat would be fine.
Sebastian’s nervousness makes him easily started by loud noises and fast movements so he would be best in a home with older/teenage children. The noise and energy of young children would be too overwhelming for this tender boy. His new family needs to be committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for him as he continues to build his confidence.
Sebastian will benefit greatly from attending formal training and his new family need to embrace this process. Sebastian learned how to SIT in an hour using treats and lots of positive affirmations so training with him will be a fantastic experience. It will also be a great way for him to continue to build his confidence and burn some of that energy!
Sebastian was a cryptorchid (meaning only one testicle had descended) but he was successfully neutered at our vet without any issue. He received all his core vaccines and health tests and there are no concerns that this time.
This sweet boy came into rescue bringing nothing but love and joy and he is ready to share that with his forever family. He may be the bad boy of rescue, but he is nothing but a good boy, only wanting to make his people happy. He’s been an incredibly easy boy to foster and an even easier boy to love. All he needs is a soft place to land where his health and his happiness are a priority. He needs a calm and patient home where he can continue to grow and settle. Are you looking for a sweet boy to dote on, to cuddle on the couch with, and to bring along on grand adventures? Sebastian is your boy! Please fill out an application and we’ll talk more about him – we’re just going to listen to our favorite Skid Row song first…
Sebastian is a young dog, He has a heart of gold
Lived on the streets with nothing, Not even a single bone
Just barely getting by, He came from who knows where
Hid like a bunny, So no one could trap him in their snare
But then they caught him, ooh, They brought him in
He was living in a shelter, And he found himself alone
And now he’s
Rescued for life you got it
Rescued for life at last
Has so much time now that’s he’s
Rescued and life to go
Rescued by Pound Dog, he was
Rescued, his life’s been spared
Deserves a new life now he’s
Rescued with love to give!
