ADOPTION PENDING
Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.
Introducing Teeling – a 3.5mth old Bichon Frise x Cocker Spaniel! With a beautiful white coat and whisky-coloured markings he is adorable. He is a snuggle bug of a dog – part cuddler, part waggy tail, and all puppy love.
Teeling was rescued from a mill. Even with his rough start to life, he has a sweet and playful nature. All Teeling seems to want is to be loved and cuddled – with some snack breaks in between. He wants to be part of every event going on, sometimes safely from a distance as he is still trying to figure out life.
Prior to entering rescue, Teeling had never lived in a house. He has quickly adjusted to his new environment and is learning that his crate is a safe retreat (especially when room service arrives). Toys are his latest discovery and it is wonderful see him having fun and his playful personality coming out.
Teeling is fostered in a home with another dog and he gets along well with his foster brother. And, if no human is there, Teeling will try to snuggle with his foster brother and will follow him from bed to bed in attempt to find a good opportunity to curl up with him. Teeling’s first choice is to snuggle with humans and to sit on them whenever possible – his new family will need to love the lack of personal space! Teeling would be fine in a home with a puppy friendly dog to mentor off of, but will also be just fine as the only dog getting all of the love and attention.
Because he was not treated well in the puppy mill, Teeling is a timid puppy and will run if someone moves suddenly or reaches toward him too quickly. He has made great strides since coming into rescue and his foster brother has given Teeling some confidence. Once adopted, Teeling’s family will need to work on this and continue to build up his confidence with training and positive reinforcement.
Teeling needs a detached home since he cries loudly in his crate when left alone in the house. If someone is around his crate, he is usually quiet – he will voice his disapproval if he feels he should be out with his people. Teeling would love a home where people are home more than away as he is at his best when with his family. At night Teeling cries a little bit but will give up and go to sleep when he sees the crying won’t get him anywhere.
Housetraining is coming along well – his foster family tries to be vigilant and let him out often to encourage good toilet practices. It is a
masterpiece in progress and Teeling will need a family who can let him out during the day as puppies need out often. Due to Teeling’s curly coat, his family will also need to be committed to regular brushing/grooming to keep the tangles down and keep his coat healthy. He is a low shedding dog and will need professional grooming every few months along with daily brushing to keep tangles at bay. His coat requirements are high so if you aren’t one for constant grooming this isnt a good fit.
Teeling is doing very well on his leash training and can walk around the backyard with confidence. He is starting ventures into the neighbourhood and working on confidence building.
Teeling has not been cat tested, but we do not anticipate any issues. He is more curious than anything. He has a laid back nature and has not shown any prey drive – even when his foster brother takes off to chase something. He will go a long for the run but only to keep up. Teeling has not been around small children since he entered foster care due to his small size and need for a quiet and calm environment. Since he is still scared of sudden movements, we want a home for him with kids who are at least12 years of age. Teeling needs to be in an environment with family members who respect that he is still learning that humans can be kind and the world can be a fun place. Teeling is a flight risk since he can get scared so all family members need to be able to keep doors closed when he is out of his crate.
Teeling had his first vet visit and all went well. He quickly warmed up during his appointment and found a new friend with his vet at Preston Animal Hospital. Anyone interested in Teeling needs to live within 1hr of Cambridge, Ont as he must be returned to our vet later on to be neutered. He will be adopted out on a contract that stipulates this and it is mandatory. This is covered in the adoption fee.
We will only consider homes for Teeling where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and he will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. Please keep
in mind that if you work from home you need to have a plan in place for a crating schedule for the pup as puppies need 100% of you supervision when not in their crates; you cannot expect to work and have the puppy running around in the room with you as they won’t have your full attention. We are also looking for a family that is fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate.
Teeling is a loving soul and is happiest when he can be with doing things with his humans. With his sweet, cuddly, quiet demeanor, he will be a wonderful companion and partner in crime!
