Theo

Theo (aka Mr. Nubbins) came to us from afar, and he’s going to snuggle his way near and dear to your heart. This 5 month old Rottweiler/ Golden Retriever cross is a LOVE BUG and certified very good boy who is looking for a family ready to embrace his big personality and soon-to-be big stature.   Because he is a Northern Manitoba dog there will most likely be other breeds mixed in as well, but the totality has created a completely gorgeous, total love of a dog who is going to be a big boy.

Theo came to PDR from northern Manitoba. These dogs face many grave threats, but after being rescued, none of that hardship is palpable in Theo. He is a sweet, silly, playful, loving puppy with lots of energy and love to share. He is also an immensely cute dog with a silky soft, long wavy coat and a short, nubby tail that does not stop wiggling. Theo is currently 15KGs and his large paws indicate that he will grow into a very big boy!

Theo loves walks, snuggles, play time, and meal time. On walks, he strolls very well on the leash, not pulling much as he enthusiastically investigates the world around him. He is highly food motivated and learning quickly that the “heel” position means TREATS! Theo is very smart and a good listener for his young age, so consistent training and exercise will be a must to support him as he grows. He is a gentle soul, with a deep drive to be with his people, but he’s also happy to entertain himself with toys or a chewy bone. You’ll either find him rubbing up against you for pets, curled up near you snoozing, or bouncing joyfully from toy to toy. He is serious about mealtime though and will run to his crate where he takes his meals. Theo is crate-trained, house-trained, and a quick study when integrating into home life.

There are so many cute little quirks that make Theo shine. He has fondly been nicknamed “the grass gator” by his foster family because of how much he enjoys flopping down on his belly on the lawn. He also yips joyfully as you make his meals, unable to contain his excitement. Theo will sprint towards you full-force when you call him, so eager to please and happy to be loved on. He is also finding his voice and the sounds of his ah-woo’s, yips, barks, and playful grumbles are more and more frequently heard around his foster home. Theo adores his foster brother and would do well in a home with another dog. If there is another dog in the home it will need to be tolerant of puppies and enjoy yard play and wrestles.  He follows his foster brother everywhere and is always down to play. He would certainly be a great addition to a pack, although he could be adopted as an only dog and would do well too. He’s truly just happy to be alive and be with his family. 

Theo is also working on a few things. Theo is in his “put it in my mouth” phase of puppyhood. Foliage on a walk? FUN, LET’S GRAB IT! The leash is dangling and swinging?  MUST BE A CHEW TOY! There are ropes, toys, shoes, and clothing strewn across the floor? LET’S GET THEM ALL! This is completely normal puppy behaviour but Theo’s future family should be prepared to give a lot of reminders about what is and is not a chew toy. Theo has learned the “sit” command and diligently listens when asked to sit, but is still working on other commands like down, wait, paw, and drop it.  He will excel at his obedience training required post adoption.  He is a super social, confident pup who loves being rewarded for good behaviour so class will be a dream for him.

Theo is great in the car. He rides in his crate fine and doesn’t fuss, happily jumping down to explore his destination. While Theo prefers to be with his family, he doesn’t fuss much in his crate. Theo sleeps quietly in his crate from 10pm to 7am and can spend up to 5 hours in his crate during the day, only really whining when he needs to use the bathroom or awoo’ing when he’s spent too long resting and needs to move his wiggly body. Theo is turning out to be a more vocal dog, so an apartment is likely not a good option for his forever home. Theo would do well in any other home environments, with or without a backyard as he happily will do his business on walks. Theo loves kids and is a calmer puppy, so he would do well in a home with kids 5 & up. Theo needs 2-3 45 min walks a day, but would happily go as long as you’re willing to go. He is an energizer bunny and his home should be prepared to be active with him to keep him in happy.  Theo will also need his forever people to be committed to obedience school training and attending advanced levels.  He will be too big and strong of a dog not to be very well trained and socialized.   We want the very best for Theo so will only consider those who will commit to bringing out the very best with this lovely boy.

Overall, this Manitoba rescue dog is a true gem, with endless sweetness and vivacity to share with his forever family. Theo is sure to be popular, so submit your application if he sounds like the pawfect dog for your family!
