ADOPTION PENDING
Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.
Meet Tofu, a 13-month-old 15 lbs Wheaten Terrier–Poodle mix who is smart, energetic, and eager to please. He’s a loving boy who thrives on affection and connection; his greatest joy is simply being loved, pet, praised, and spending quality time with his people. He hasn’t met a person who he didn’t want to be besties with so he is eager to meet his potential new forever family and start his life as a beloved family dog!
Tofu is house trained and very polite about it, he will sit by the door when he wants to go outside and let you know when he’s ready to come back in by ringing the bell. Like many young dogs, he’s curious and still learning what’s his and what isn’t, but with gentle guidance he does very well. He responds well to redirection with a simple ‘eck or ahh’ where he will stop inappropriate behaviour and allow you to redirect him accordingly. Positive reinforcement, consistency and environmental management are the key to a peaceful atmosphere for everyone. That being said anything untethered is fair game so for safety reasons being crated when unsupervised is in everyone’s best interest. He has already learnt basic commands such as ‘sit’ and ‘come’, and he is very eager to please, making him very trainable.
Tofu is still learning how to walk properly on the leash but absolutely loves his walks. He needs gentle reminders not to pull but settles quickly and enjoys the smells and fresh air. Tofu is a high energy dog who needs a lot of walks, running play, etc to be sated. He is outdoorsy and up for any adventures. His person or people need to be active people who are already out every day on long fast walks, runs, hikes etc. He is more than happy for some cozy cuddle time after, but Tofu needs to get his energy out first and short, simple walks wont cut it. He would love a secure fenced yard to run around and play ball in and have fun games of chase. Tofu also does well in the car, settling immediately for a nap as soon as the car ride starts so he is a great adventure buddy.
He’s good with other dogs and enjoys canine companionship. Tofu would do well in a home with another energetic and playful dog but would also do well as an only dog. When it comes
to cats, Tofu is very excitable and curious but if they are dog-savvy cats who do not run he is fine with them. Tofu would enjoy a home with children who are over the age of 8yrs. He is an easily excitable pup who would get too over stimulated with younger kids. Tofu would also like a home where his people are around more than away. He isnt a great fit for a family where people are gone for a full workday. He is a very social pup and needs to have his people around more than away.
Tofu has a very fluffy and silky coat that requires daily grooming. Our awesome grooming team gave him a puppy cut as his first grooming experience to make it a positive one for him and make him extra adorable for photos, but this isnt a highly sustainable length for a busy dog who wants to go places and do all the fun! He will require a lot of brushing and general upkeep tho so needs his people to be on this and ensure he doesn’t get matted. He is a low shedding dog but cannot be considered hypoallergenic.
This boy is full of joy and enthusiasm. He absolutely loves his toys and is always ready for a game, especially fetch! He’s becoming more cooperative about bringing toys back and is learning to release when asked, making playtime even more fun. When playtime is over, Tofu’s favourite place to be is right beside his human. He’ll happily curl up next to you on the couch, gently resting his paws on your arm while you relax together. He doesn’t love being alone and would thrive in a home where he gets plenty of companionship. When unsupervised, he’s safest and most relaxed in his crate, where he settles quickly.
Tofu is a lovely, fluffy handsome dog, with irresistible brown eyes and striking golden eye lashes that have the whole neighbourhood telling him he is adorable. His ideal home is one with a good sized yard for running around in, having his people home more than away daily, and active people who can get him out for his adventures and exercise. His people need to be good with the high grooming demands of his silky coat and may be best to keep trimmed short if out a lot on wooded trails or hiking. Most of all he wants a family to love him and care for him and give him the security of a forever home. If you are active, fun loving people looking
