Cinderella

ADOPTION PENDING

Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.

Introducing Cinderella, a lovely 5yr old blonde Cocker Spaniel who is now searching for her happily ever after story!  Cinderella came to the rescue with some extra weight. She has been slimming down while in foster care, but will need her owner to continue helping her get to a healthier weight. She currently weighs 38lbs and has more to lose.  She does love her couch snuggles but also loves the opportunity to go on adventures and play. She was named after Cinderella because she is a beautiful princess who just needs her Prince or Princess Charming to give her the good life.

Cinderella came from a puppy mill where she was used for breeding. She is a resilient girl who still wants to give love, but she does still have some fear responses. She will need someone who can continue to build her confidence and show her that life does not need to be so scary. She is starting to learn that when she gets scared, she can run to her foster mom instead of needing to hide on her own.

Cinderella could go to a home with other animals, or as a solo dog. She had the opportunity in her foster home to be around other dogs, but she also spent a week where she was the only dog in the home and did just fine. She is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. She wants nothing more than to give cuddles and gentle kisses. She will make a wonderful companion. She is still sound reactive and will react to loud noises, items being dropped, and household appliances. Cinderella has been working so hard at getting comfortable on a leash. When she was rescued, she refused to budge when being guided on a leash. Now with a lot of praise, she will follow on a leash. She will need someone who will continue to build her confidence on leash. Once she gets going, she loves a good hike.

Cinderella loves to snuggle in and will often scooch over and nuzzle in as close as she can when you sit beside her. She will also run and frolic when she is having fun outside. She still looks like a silly happy puppy as she comes bounding over to you with a smile on her face. Her coat continues to come in healthier since being rescued. With the cocker spaniel ears, she will need regular ear cleaning to prevent infection. Cinderella came to the rescue fully potty trained and has not had an accident since her very first night. She does not relieve herself on walks but has no problem doing so in the backyard. Cinderella will need to have a yard to do her bathroom duties in her forever home.  She sleeps in her crate and spends 2-4 hours in her crate most days. She has a hard time settling at night for the first 10-20 minutes but she will settle eventually and sleep through the night. She travelled with us up to our cabin 5 hours away and spent the whole car ride calmly relaxing in her crate with a couple pee breaks along the way.

Cinderella has been staying in a home with a large dog, small dog, and a cat. She has been great with all three animals and started snuggling with the other dogs. She would do well in a home with other animals, but she would also be happy getting all of the attention herself. She has never been reactive towards other dogs or animals on any of our walks.

Cinderella has not met children but she seems very interested in the neighborhood children. She would do well in a home with no children or children over 8 years old.  Because of her reaction to noise or sudden movements she wouldn’t do well in a home with younger children.

Cinderella has gotten really good at recall and coming when called. She has also been working on her basics like leave it and sit. She will need ongoing training to build up her confidence especially around leash walking and not begging for food/trying to steal food.

Cinderella is now fully spayed and up to date on her vaccines. Unfortunately mill moms often have dental issues so she will need future dental care.   Our vet determined she does not need a dental at this time, and we want to see how her teeth look now that she is on good food and has access to dental chews and chew bones.   If her owner would brush her teeth that would delay a future dental as well.  Cocker spaniels are also known for having ear infections so she may need treatment for ear infections in the future.  Anyone interested in Cinderella will need to be diligent about ear cleaning as those heavy Cocker ears don’t let air circulate well in the ear canal.

Cinderella is a very sweet girl who just wants to love and be loved. She is so happy just snuggling on the couch. But she needs a home where she will be pushed to continue to build up her confidence. As much as she hates getting off the couch, she is so happy exploring. She needs someone who will keep her active. She wants nothing more than to go for a hike and then come home for snuggles.
