ADOPTION PENDING
Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. At Pound Dog Rescue, we believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process.
Meet Marnie: Loyal Sidekick, Treat Enthusiast, and Full-Time Sweetheart!
Marnie is a 4-year-old chocolate brown Cocker Spaniel with the fluffiest coat and an adorable white stripe down her chest. At 30 lbs, she’s currently working toward her ideal weight of around 25 lbs, and luckily for her, she absolutely loves her daily walks. Every stroll is just another step in her fitness journey, and she’s happy to have a walking buddy along for the adventure!
Marnie came to the rescue from a breeding mill, where she spent her early years making puppies for profit. Because of this, much of the world is still new to her. Despite her past, Marnie has embraced her second chance with a sweet and trusting nature. She may be a little shy when first meeting new people, but one gentle head pat is usually all it takes before she’s asking for more. Once she trusts you, her affection knows no limits.
In fact, if Marnie had a job title, it would be “Director of Following you Around”. She wants to be wherever you are, whatever you’re doing. Cooking dinner? Marnie
is supervising. Going to the bathroom? Marnie feels moral support is important. Putting on your shoes? Marnie’s got kisses lined up while you tie your laces. She will steal every opportunity to soak up love and attention. Personal space is simply a concept she has chosen not to acknowledge. But once you’ve earned her love (which doesn’t take long), you’ll have a devoted little shadow following you from room to room, always ready with kisses and cuddles.
Marnie is happiest when she’s close to her people. While she’s still learning that it’s okay to relax when her humans are busy or in another room, she has already made wonderful progress in foster care. She is a quiet, easy-going companion who loves lounging nearby while you go about your day.
Food is one of Marnie’s greatest passions. Meals are never turned down, treats are enthusiastically accepted, and she takes them with the gentlest manners. Sometimes after eating, she’ll quietly come over and give your legs a few sweet puppy kisses. We like to think it’s her way of saying “thank you” or simply sharing her happiness.
Marnie is a medium-energy dog who enjoys her daily neighbourhood walks and does beautifully on leash. Most of the time she’s content to stroll alongside you, although squirrels occasionally convince her that she’s actually a hunting dog. When one appears, her nose hits the ground, her tail starts wagging, and she’s suddenly very invested in the situation. Otherwise, she is neutral around people, dogs, passing traffic, and she has done wonderfully on group dog walks.
She currently lives with another small dog and has learned a lot by watching her foster sibling. While she hasn’t shown much interest in playtime yet, she is content with the company of another dog and would be happy in a home with or without one. If there is another dog in the home, they should ideally be independent and comfortable sharing attention. Marnie has shown no resource guarding with food or toys toward humans or dogs. She has not been cat tested, but a dog-savvy cat
accustomed to living with dogs may do well with proper introductions.
Marnie has made fantastic progress with her crate training and now willingly goes into her crate when asked with the cue “crate.” She sees it as her safe space and sleeps comfortably through the night. She may give a couple of morning barks just to make sure everyone is still there, but settles quickly once she hears your voice. The crate helps keep Marnie safe while she is still learning house manners. She is also doing wonderfully with housetraining, and lets her foster know when she needs outside by pacing near the patio door. One of her favourite activities is zooming around a fenced backyard, especially if a squirrel has the audacity to visit.
As Marnie continues learning what it means to simply be a beloved dog, it’s been incredibly heartwarming to watch her discover toys. Rope toys have recently become a favourite, and seeing her explore play for perhaps the first time is truly special.
Marnie is excellent for grooming, bathing, brushing, and handling. She can be picked up easily and enjoys the extra attention. She travels safely in a crate during car rides, although she can be a bit nervous and has experienced some motion sickness. Avoiding meals right before travel helps, and with more fun adventures ahead, we expect her confidence in the car will continue to grow. Marnie has received a clean bill of health from the vet, is spayed, and is fully up to date on her vaccinations.
Marnie is gentle when taking food and treats and continues to work on jumping – she truly means no trouble — she’s just overflowing with excitement and love and
doesn’t always know where to put it. Because of her enthusiastic greetings, his ideal home would have children aged 8 and older who will appreciate her sweet, affectionate personality.
Marnie isn’t overly demanding and would be happy in a variety of homes. She could thrive in a condo or apartment setting, provided it’s not in an exceptionally busy downtown environment and she receives her regular walks and companionship. Ideally, Marnie would love a home with a securely fenced yard where she can stretch her legs, explore at her own pace, and keep a watchful eye on any squirrels that dare to visit. Most importantly, she’s looking for a family who will include her in their daily life and cherish the close bond she so naturally forms with her people.
Marnie is the kind of dog who bonds with her whole heart. She’ll greet you with full-body wiggles, and happily spend her days curled up by your side. After everything she’s been through, Marnie is ready for a family of her own and a lifetime of love. If you’re looking for a devoted companion, a world-class cuddle buddy, and a shadow who will adore you unconditionally, Marnie might just be the missing piece you’ve been waiting for!
