Pinecone

ADOPTED

As I write this bio, Pinecone, in her sweetness, is squirming on my lap looking for pets and kisses. Pinecone is a beautiful brown Australian Shepherd. Pinecone  is about a year old having lived her life so far in a breeding for profit environment where she had at least one litter of puppies before she was taken in by Pound Dog Rescue. That was lucky for her and for us who get to meet her, now she gets to experience a life full of love and we get to experience her sweetness! Despite having been in a mill she is extremely friendly and affectionate with new people and other dogs.

Pound Dog believes strongly in continuing education for their dogs and their new families, so dog training is mandatory for Pinecone’s successful applicant. This is great, because Pinecone would definitely benefit from the training as she is very smart, and has lots of energy – recipe for a mischievous pup!

Pinecone is a snuggly, squirmy and playful girl! To get out her energy she loves to run around with her foster brother or play with other dogs, take a nice long walk or chase a ball around the yard. She also loves to chew a bone and take a nap in the sun or on the couch. She has not met another cat so we do not know if she would get along with one or not. But she is a sweet, trainable dog and there is no evidence of her having a very strong prey drive. Her favourite toys are the ones that squeak, she will run around the yard or lie on the couch repeatedly squeaking her toy! Which is just about the cutest thing!

Pinecone is a little anxious about car rides, and sometimes needs some convincing to jump (or be lifted in) but once there she is calm and subdued for the trip.

Pinecone eats very well, does not have a special diet, eats two meals a day, and loves treats. Pinecone walks nicely on a leash, but needs more training to not pull. She can sit, go in her crate at the command “crate” and comes to her name. Pinecone does well in the crate and is used to being in there for full working days when her foster parents are both working a few times per week. She is quiet in the crate save for the odd quiet whimper. House training is still a work in progress. She is understanding that outside is the bathroom, but is not sure yet how to tell us she needs to go, so we have to keep a close eye on her inside the house.

Pinecone has the energy and agility of an Australian shepherd and the hair of a poodle. Her coat is loosely curled and she does not shed, so she does require grooming every few months. Her coat is very soft and a beautiful brown colour! Her golden brown eyes will melt your heart as she comes in for snuggles.

The right family for Pinecone could have other dogs in the house for her to play with but is not a requirement. Pinecone likes kids and is patient and sweet with them, she will do well in a home with respectful and calm children 8 and older. Pinecone would thrive in a home where she can be well trained and with enough stimulation that her boredom doesn’t get her into trouble. She would be happy with an owner or family that would give her lots of love and affection.

If you are looking for a smart, trainable dog that will love you to pieces, give you lots of affection and be able to keep up with whatever activities you have, Pinecone is the perfect match. She is truly a lovely girl who would make a great addition to a home that is willing to give her the life she deserves!
